Relegation-threatened Oxford could claim a huge victory on Tuesday
  • Oxford have won their last two games and are now one point from safety

  • Blackburn have picked up just a point in three matches and sit 20th

  • Recommended bet: Oxford to win

Oxford United host Blackburn Rovers at the Kassam Stadium in a Championship six-pointer on Wednesday evening.

The U’s have won their last two league matches and another victory can see the team move to within a point of relegation rivals Blackburn.

Team news

Oxford winger Przemyslaw Placheta will be assessed having missed the last month with a calf issue.

Brian De Keersmaecker is out until the end of March due to a shoulder problem while Tyler Goodrham has been sidelined with an ankle injury.

Blackburn have been without playmaker Todd Cantwell for over a month and he remains a doubt.

Goalkeeper Aynsley Pears has been sidelined with a wrist injury, while Ryan Hedges will not be back until May after breaking his leg.

Defender Hayden Carter had been a doubt for Saturday's match with Portsmouth but played and scored and is again available for selection.

Midfielder Sondre Tronstad and full-back Lewis Miller have both been ruled out for the season.

The stats

Recent wins over West Brom and Preston saw Oxford record successive victories for the first time since last January.

Blackburn have won just three of their last 16 matches across all competitions since Boxing Day.

Oxford have won just one of their last 10 matches against Rovers, dating back to April 1991.

Blackburn have won just one of their last nine Championship games on the road, beating QPR in February, drawing three and losing five.

Only already-relegated Sheffield Wednesday have failed to score in more Championship home matches (11) than Oxford (8) this season.

Prediction

Oxford United’s midweek clash with Blackburn Rovers is a huge fixture at the bottom of the Championship table and a win for either side could have a massive say on the final standings in May.

The U’s have won their last two matches and have given themselves a strong chance of climbing out of the relegation zone. Victory could see Oxford move above West Brom and Leicester and to within a point of Wednesday’s opponents Blackburn who are 20th heading into the fixture.

Oxford beat the Baggies 2-1 in their last home match and now have the chance to win three league games in a row for the first time since December 2024.

Blackburn travel to the Kassam Stadium on the back of a 1-1 draw with Portsmouth at Ewood Park having lost their previous two games in the Championship.

The momentum is certainly with Oxford and with home advantage too, backing the U’s to take another three points could prove a savvy pick.
