Norwich vs Blackburn predictions: Resurgent Canaries look too strong on home turf

Philippe Clement has helped Norwich move out of the Championship relegation zone
  • Norwich beat leaders Coventry 2-1 in their last home match

  • Blackburn gained a much-needed 1-0 home win over Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday

  • Recommended bet: Norwich to win

Philippe Clement took charge at Carrow Road in mid-November with Norwich four points from safety after a disastrous start to the season under Liam Manning.

The ex-Rangers boss has since guided the Canaries out of the relegation zone but they remain in peril in 19th place, just one point above the bottom three.

Blackburn are a point behind Norwich in 21st place after climbing out of the drop zone on goal difference on Tuesday with a hard-fought 1-0 home win over rock-bottom Sheffield Wednesday.

That was a first win in nine league games for Rovers, who had long-time coach Damien Johnson in temporary charge after Valerien Ismael was sacked the previous day.

Team news

Norwich striker Josh Sargent remains out of favour but the January transfer window brought good additions up front.

The star turn has been winger Ali Ahmed, who has two goals and two assists in his first four appearances for the club.

Striker Mohamed Toure, signed for £2.6m late in the window, is expected to be ready for his first appearance.

Johnson made four changes in his first Rovers team selection on Tuesday, recalling defenders Lewis Miller and fit-again Hayden Carter along with midfielders Dion de Neve and Moussa Baradji.

There are limited options in the squad but Ryan Alebiosu is available to return at right-back and striker Andri Gudjohnsen could make his first start in seven weeks after coming off the bench in the last two games.

The stats

Norwich have won four of their seven home league games under Philippe Clement.

The Canaries have won five out of seven overall since the turn of the year.

Clement’s side have scored at least twice in all of those recent wins.

Blackburn are winless in their last seven away games.

Rovers have scored only one goal in their last five on the road.

Andri Gudjohnsen scored in four of his last seven starts before his hamstring injury.

Prediction

Norwich boss Clement has really stoked up some momentum since the turn of the year.

In that time his improving side have beaten high-flyers Coventry and Wrexham as well as hammering out-of-form West Brom 5-0 on the road.

Last Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough was no disgrace, considering the promotion chasers are the form team in the division with five straight wins.

This is a much easier opportunity for the Canaries, who had previously won four on the bounce in all competitions, scoring 14 goals.

Blackburn started the season strongly on the road, winning five of their first eight games on their travels, including victories over promotion challengers Hull and Preston.

Their form took a nosedive after that, however. Since beating Preston in late November, Rovers have won only twice in 16 matches home or away.

Both of those successes came at Ewood Park and their recent away record has been poor.

Norwich look an excellent bet to continue their recent upturn under Clement.
