Team news

Millwall's superb win at Loftus Road on Saturday was somewhat tarnished by Massimo Luongo's early injury, which could see him miss the remainder of the season.

It is feared the Aussie midfielder ruptured his ACL following an innocuous clash with QPR's Michael Frey.

New Zealand international Max Crocombe is expected to continue between the sticks after wrestling the number one jersey from Steven Benda, with first-choice stopper Lukas Jensen out with an Achilles issue.

Having strained his hamstring during last month's EFL Cup tie with local rivals Crystal Palace, full-back Danny McNamara has returned to training.

Bosun Lawal is again unavailable after missing each of Stoke's last three fixtures with a hamstring strain, while Bae Jun-ho is still nursing a dislocated shoulder.

The South Korean picked up the injury while on international duty, leaving him sidelined for the 1-0 victory over Wrexham.

The stats

The Lions have bounced back admirably following the disappointment of not making last season's play-offs – they have taken 17 points from their opening 10 Championship fixtures.

Only two of Millwall's five league victories have come on home turf, although Alex Neil's men did edge past Coventry City at The Den in the second round of the EFL Cup.

Stoke have not lost since September's 1-0 reverse at the hands of QPR, which remains their only league defeat of the campaign.

Remarkably, the Staffordshire outfit have only beaten Tuesday's opponents once in their last 13 attempts, a record that stretches back to April 2019.

Prediction

The combination of Millwall's profligacy in the final third and a watertight Stoke defence suggests we will not see too much goalmouth action.

Only three of the Potters' 10 league contests have produced three goals or more and each of these came in the first few weeks of the season.

No team in the division has conceded fewer, with Viktor Johansson's net breached on just 12 occasions so far.

The potential for a stop-start contest will serve to further undermine the quest for goals, with both teams not afraid to throw their weight around.

Millwall have recorded more fouls (145) than any other Championship outfit, while Stoke are one of only a handful of sides to have received a red card.

The pair have amassed a combined total of 40 yellow cards already.

Both of last season's clashes between these opponents generated fewer than three goals. November's 1-1 draw in the Potteries was followed up by a narrow Millwall victory four months later.
