  • Millwall beat Coventry 2-1 in the Carabao Cup last month

  • Coventry thumped Birmingham 3-0 to go second on Saturday

Millwall pipped Coventry 2-1 when the sides met in South London in the League Cup a month ago and would hope to repeat the feat as they clash at the same venue in the Championship.

Alex Neil's Lions are proving tough to beat and Frank Lampard knows this will be a real scrap, though his Coventry side are unbeaten in the league and will also be fancying their chances.

Team news

Millwall boss Neil could welcome midfielders Femi Azeez and Luke Cundle back into the squad after injury-enforced lay-offs.

Star midfielder Jack Rudoni is a big miss for Coventry, the former Huddersfield schemer dealing with a calf problem.

Ephron Mason-Clark is also a doubt but defenders Kaine Kesler-Hayden and Joel Latibeaudiere are available again.

The stats

Both these clubs have drawn three of their last four matches.

Prediction

Just three points separated Millwall and Coventry in the Championship by the end of the 2024-25 season and there does not look a great deal between these clubs once again this term.

Coventry are second, one of two unbeaten teams, after seven rounds of matches but are only a couple of points clear of Neil's Millwall.

The Sky Blues are the division's highest scorers with 18 goals, though 12 of those came in two games against Derby and QPR.

They are currently on a run of three draws in their last four, though one of those was 0-0 at Leicester and there is no disgrace in that.

Lampard will also be thrilled they followed up the stalemate at the King Power with a 3-0 dismantling of another Midlands' rival, Birmingham, and they are clearly going well as they attempt to improve on last season's run to the play-off semis.

Their lone loss this season was at Millwall in the League Cup — a match where Lampard made plenty of changes — but they will be acutely aware that the physical Lions are going to take some unpicking.

Millwall have also drawn three of their last four, one of which was at Crystal Palace in the League Cup, a game they eventually lost on penalties.

They drew 1-1 at Swansea on Saturday where they soaked up what pressure the Welsh side could exert and always looked a danger themselves, especially at set-plays.

There is a tentative case to be made for either Millwall or Coventry but a more compelling one is for these two well-matched outfits to draw.
