  • Millwall are unbeaten in nine away games, winning on six occasions

  • The Lions were 3-1 winners at Hull in the regular season in March

  • Recommended bet: Millwall to win

Having missed out on automatic promotion to the Premier League by just a single point, Millwall must now turn their attention to the Championship play-offs and a two-legged tie with Hull.

Despite going five games unbeaten to end the season, Millwall finished a point behind second-placed Ipswich, who will join champions Coventry in the Premier League for the 2026-27 campaign.

Millwall would have been disappointed to come so close, but they were chasing Ipswich for a while so there are unlikely to be too many mental scars to overcome.

For Hull, they only secured their play-off place on the final day with a 2-1 victory over Norwich allowing them to fend off the challenge of Wrexham.

However, the Tigers almost blew the opportunity with a laboured finish to proceedings and they will know that they are in for a stern test against the Championship’s road warriors.

Team news

Hull remain without Toby Collyer, Elliott Matazo and Cody Drameh but are otherwise near full strength, with Oliver McBurnie, Joe Gelhardt and Kyle Joseph leading from the front.

For Millwall, they are unable to call upon the services of Joe Bryan, Lukas Jensen, Daniel Kelly and Massimo Luongo.

Josh Coburn missed the home win over Oxford on the final day of the season but manager Alex Neil is hopeful that the striker can return.

The stats

Millwall are unbeaten in nine away league games, having won on six occasions.

The Lions are unbeaten in five, winning three of their last four Championship fixtures.

Hull have won just one of their last seven league matches.

Both teams have scored in seven of Hull’s last eight games and in five of Millwall’s last six away fixtures.

Both teams scored when these two met in the regular season at both the MKM Stadium and The Den.

Prediction

Millwall picked up 41 points from their 23 away games in this season’s Championship, making them the most productive team on the road in the division.

The Lions went unbeaten during their final nine away league matches and they won six of those fixtures, which includes a 3-1 success at Hull in March.

Hull finished 10 points behind Millwall in the regular-season standings and they may struggle to lay a glove on them in this play-off semi-final.

The Tigers did well to regain composure with their 2-1 victory at home to Norwich on the final day of the campaign but that snapped a six-game winless run and they failed to beat relegated pair Oxford and Leicester during that period.

There is a sense that Hull may have outperformed expectations to secure a top-six finish and Millwall, so well-oiled defensively with an abundance of attacking talent, should put them to the sword early.
