Coventry are close to securing automatic promotion and Frank Lampard will want leave Hull with all three points.
  • Hull are four points clear of seventh-placed Southampton

  • Coventry close to a return to Premier League for first time in 25 years

  • Recommended bet: Coventry to win

Hull remain firmly in the hunt for a return to the Premier League for the first time in a decade, with the Tigers fifth in the table, just five points adrift of the automatic places.

Runaway leaders Coventry, meanwhile, look certain to secure automatic promotion as they are top of the table and a massive 12 points clear of the team in third place.

Not since the 2000/01 season have the Sky Blues played top-flight football and Frank Lampard could become a City hero in the coming weeks.

Team news

The host will be without Ryan Giles, Akin Famewo, Matty Jacob, Eliot Matazo, Regan Slater, Darko Gyabi and Nathan Tinsdale due to injury.

Coventry boss Lampard only has a few of players absent for this clash. Oliver Dovin has a cruciate ligament injury and he will not return until next season, while Miguel Brau has a muscle issue, but is expected back in the middle of April.

Brandon Thomas-Asante will likely miss the clash due to a hamstring injury, but he should be back for next weekend.

The stats

The head-to-head between these two in recent years has been fairly even. Since the beginning of the 2021/22 campaign, a total of nine meetings between the clubs has taken place.

Hull have won three of those games, with Coventry picking up two wins in that time. The previous two games have both ended as draws.

Both teams have scored in six of the last nine games between Hull and Swansea in the Championship.

Coventry boast the best attacking record in the Championship, having scored 84 goals across 40 games so far.

Hull have netted 63 times in the same number of matches, while conceding 16 more goals than their opponents.

Haji Wright is Coventry's top scorer this season with 17 goals in all competitions.

For Hull, only two players have reached double digits for goals this term – Oli McBurnie has 14, while Joe Gelhardt has netted 13 times for the Tigers.

Prediction

A win for the visitors will take them a massive step closer to the Premier League and, if other results go their way, the Sky Blues could be 15 points clear of third place with just five games remaining for most sides, although Ipswich have two games in hand.

Lampard will only be focusing on this match, however, as it comes just three days after a nervy 3-2 victory over Derby.

A late winner by Jack Rudoni sealed all three crucial points, while the Tigers were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation candidates Oxford on Good Friday.

Coventry enter this game having won four of their last five games and Lampard's men should seal another victory at the MKM Stadium.
