  • Hull have taken 10 points from the last 12 available on home soil

  • Charlton have lost on three of their last four trips to the MKM Stadium

  • Recommended bet: Hull to win

In-form Hull and Charlton will meet at the MKM Stadium in the Championship on Saturday with both sides looking to further underline their play-off credentials.

After winning only one of their opening five league matches, Hull appear to have found their feet under Sergej Jakirovic, recording their third victory on the bounce with their midweek home success over Leicester.

That leaves the Tigers seventh in the standings heading into the weekend, level on points with fifth-placed Charlton, who also enjoyed an eye-catching win over an expected promotion contender last time out, triumphing 3-0 away at Ipswich.

Team news

Hull look set to be without six-goal leading scorer Oli McBurnie once again as he continues to struggle with a calf issue. Mohamed Belloumi, John Lundstram, Kasey Palmer and Eliot Matazo also remain out of contention.

Captain Lewie Coyle is available after being restricted to a bench role against Leicester, while Ryan Giles, who was forced off during that midweek success, should also feature.

Joe Edwards and Matt Godden remain Charlton's only confirmed absentees and manager Nathan Jones could stick with the same starting XI that won at Ipswich, although Miles Leaburn, who came off the bench to score in that game, will hope to have done enough to earn a recall.

The stats

Only league leaders Coventry (16) have accumulated more points than Hull and Charlton across the last six matches, with both picking up 13 apiece.

Hull have scored the joint-second most goals in the Championship this season but only bottom of the table Sheffield Wednesday have conceded more.

Charlton have conceded just nine goals since returning to the second tier, only three teams have a better defensive record.

Hull have won just three of their last 13 league meetings with Charlton, although all three of those successes have come on Humberside, including a 6-0 triumph in January 2016.

Charlton won the most recent clash between the sides, edging to a 1-0 success at The Valley in May 2021 when both sides were playing in League One.

Prediction

Hull only avoided relegation on goal difference last season, while Charlton were promoted via the League One play-offs, so it is fair to say both sides have been exceeding expectations.

Boasting identical records over the last six games, picking a winner appears difficult, but with home advantage, Hull should have enough to get over the line.

No team has picked up more home points in the second tier this season than the Tigers' total of 13 and they will be chasing a third victory on the bounce at the MKM Stadium after seeing off both Sheffield United (1-0) and Leicester (2-1).

Charlton will keep this competitive and underlined their own credentials at Ipswich last time out, but the Addicks have lost at QPR and Preston in the league and Cambridge in the Carabao Cup this season, so another away defeat could be on the cards.
