Derby had one of the better January transfer windows in the Championship, concluding their business with the arrivals of striker Sammie Szmodics on loan and left-back Derry Murkin.

Danish midfielder Oscar Fraulo, so far limited to cameo appearances off the bench in the league, is in contention for a first start. Szmodics will be unavailable to play against his parent club.

Ipswich failed to find a striker in place of Szmodics but added a goal threat in midfield with the signing of Anis Mehmeti from Bristol City. He is set to retain his place after last week’s first start against Preston.

Neither side has wholly convincing form for this match-up, with Derby struggling to win at home and Ipswich having the same trouble on their travels.

Looking at the bigger picture, however, both teams rank highly in the recent form table and that sets up the prospect of a competitive and entertaining clash.

Derby’s 5-0 win at Bristol City last time out was one of the most impressive results of the season in the Championship, with key attackers Ben Brereton Diaz, Rhian Brewster, Patrick Agyemang and Bobby Clark all among the goalscorers.

With that firepower, the Rams usually get on the scoresheet and that gives them a decent chance heading into any fixture.
