Coventry have regained composure after a sloppy start to the year and it would be one of the surprises of the season were the Championship title chasers to slip up at home to basement boys Sheffield Wednesday.

The Sky Blues have won eight of their last 10 matches to move towards the brink of a Premier League return, leaving them 12 points clear of Ipswich, Middlesbrough and Millwall ahead of this weekend’s fixtures.

The Tractor Boys do have two games in hand but the damage looks done and Coventry should be expected to make light work of Sheffield Wednesday, who have won only one of their 41 league games.

The Owls were hit with an 18-point deduction which hasn’t helped their cause, leaving them on -5 points at the bottom of the table, and they have long been preparing for League One football next term.

Team news

Coventry are almost at full strength with Oliver Dovin, Miguel Brau and Brandon Thomas-Asante set to be their only absentees.

The Owls remain without defenders Di’Shon Bernard, Liam Cooper, Guilherme Siqueira and Ernie Weaver while goalkeeper Murphy Cooper is also sidelined.

The stats

Coventry have lost only two of their 20 home league games, winning on 15 occasions.

Sheffield Wednesday have lost 15 of their 20 away league matches, suffering 11 straight losses.

The Owls have scored in seven of their last 10 matches.

Both teams have scored in six of Coventry’s last eight home league fixtures.

Coventry have won five of their past six league games against Wednesday.

The pair are separated by 71 points which is the second-biggest gap for a match in Football League history.

Prediction

It is highly likely that two divisions will separate these teams next season, with Coventry in the Premier League and Wednesday resigned to a League One campaign, and it should be plain-sailing for the Sky Blues here.

Unsurprisingly, the odds are heavily weighted in Coventry’s favour and, having won 5-0 in the reverse fixture at Hillsborough in October, they could again run riot.

Coventry have scored exactly three goals in three of their last four home league wins and Wednesday have suffered 11 straight away defeats, suggesting this should be one-way traffic.

Haji Wright carries Coventry’s chief scoring threat but it could be worth backing in-form midfielder Jack Rudoni to get on the scoresheet.

Rudoni has netted five times in his last five Championship appearances and, having been rested for the latest goalless draw with Hull, he should be fresh and raring to go.
