Coventry vs Blackburn predictions: Sky Blues set to stay on the winning trail

Coventry are the proud holders of the EFL’s only outstanding unbeaten record and they will seek to maintain their special status when taking on struggling Blackburn at the CBS Arena.

Frank Lampard’s free-scoring side are averaging exactly three goals per league game and they have looked defensively rock solid in recent times, too, with clean sheets kept in each of the last four fixtures.

There have been a few injuries to contend with, including influential midfielder Jack Rudoni, who has missed the last three matches.

But Coventry have lots of potent attacking options, including eight-goal USA international Haji Wright and livewire forward Brandon Thomas-Asante, who bagged a brace in the 5-0 success at Sheffield Wednesday a fortnight ago.

It all adds up to a stiff task for Rovers, who narrowly missed out on a play-off spot last season, but have struggled in more recent times.

The Lancashire side are perched just a point above the relegation zone, although they delivered an improved performance before the break when drawing 1-1 at home to Stoke.

Team news

Coventry must continue without Rudoni, who remains absent with a calf strain. Midfield options are further reduced by the absence of Josh Eccles (leg), while goalkeeper Oliver Dovin (knee) is a long-term absentee.

Blackburn manager Valerien Ismael must decide whether to freshen things up as he strives for an end to his team’s three-match winless run.

The visitors are set to be without midfielders Moussa Baradji (foot) and Adam Forshaw (muscle strain).

The stats

Coventry have won their last three fixtures.

The Sky Blues have kept four successive clean sheets.

Coventry have scored at least two goals in six of their last eight games.

Seven of Coventry’s last nine games have featured at least three goals.

Blackburn have scored in five of their last seven away games.

Rovers have started the scoring in four of their last seven league fixtures.

Prediction

Coventry have banged in 27 Championship goals and their offensive quality could see them over the line against Blackburn in an entertaining game.

The Sky Blues have won their last three matches — scoring 12 goals and conceding none — but they could be given more of a challenge by Blackburn, who are bolder than most with their tactics.

Rovers have had some decent results on the road, winning 3-0 at Hull and 1-0 at Watford, and they might cause Coventry a few problems with their high-pressing style.

However, Coventry have been winning games in a variety of ways and they can fall on the right side of a high-scoring outcome.
