  • There have been just 40 goals scored in Charlton's 20 home Championship games

  • The Addicks have lost four of the last five at home, Preston are winless in seven away

  • Recommended bet: Under 2.5 goals

The Championship season is into the home straight now and, for some, the finish line cannot come quickly enough.

A dismal run of two wins since early January means Preston North End's play-off challenge has long since evaporated.

Four defeats in five at The Valley have left Charlton fans restless and, ideally, the Addicks could do with a couple more points on the board to avoid looking over their shoulders towards the drop zone.

Team news

Conor Coady ended up in hospital after sustaining a head injury in the Easter Monday trip to Watford and seems set to miss out for Charlton here.

Goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski (shoulder) could also be missing, while Reece Burke (thigh), Collins Sichenje (hamstring), Josh Edwards (ankle), James Abankwah (leg) and Marc Bola (hip) are likely absentees for the hosts.

Preston pair Odel Offiah and Andrija Vukcevic took knocks and went off in Monday's draw with QPR, but are both likely to take their places here.

Ali McCann (ankle) and Robbie Brady (calf) will be assessed late, while Jamal Lewis' season is over due to a knee injury.

The stats

Preston have won the previous six head-to-heads against Charlton dating back to 2015, five of them in the Championship.

The Addicks have failed to score in four of the last five meetings at The Valley.

With just 40 goals in 20 home games, Charlton's supporters have witnessed the lowest goals-per-game average in the Championship so far.

Under 2.5 goals has landed in eight of Charlton's last nine Championship games.

Preston have won just one of their last 10 away league games (D4, L5).

North End won the reverse game 2-0 at Deepdale in October, with Charlton failing to get a shot on target.

Prediction

Charlton find themselves in 18th spot in the Championship after failing to win any of their last four games.

Nathan Jones' side probably have enough traffic between themselves and the relegation zone, but ideally another point or two on the board will stave off any worries in that regard.

Preston had top-six ambitions when they won their first two games of 2026, but North End have collapsed since, winning only two of the last 15 in the league and plummeting to 14th place.

They have managed just one away win in 10, while Charlton have taken maximum points at The Valley just three times in 10 attempts so far in 2026, losing four of the last five.

Charlton have not score more than one goal in any of the last 15 here since October and their 20 Championship home games have averaged just two goals-per-game.

Preston drew 2-2 at Leicester last time out, but prior to that Paul Heckingbottom's side had registered just two away league goals in six games.
