Bristol City remain seventh in the Championship table, despite losing to Millwall over the weekend.

The Robins trail sixth-placed Stoke by a single point heading into this clash against Leicester and are well on track for a play-off position.

Leicester have struggled since being relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season and he Foxes occupy 14th in the Championship table, having won just seven of their first 19 league fixtures.

Despite that, they are just three points off a play-off spot and a good run over the festive period could see them vault up the table.

Team news

Bristol City will be without Luke McNally and Rob Atkinson for the home clash with Leicester.

Jason Knight could be included in the starting XI after recovering from a groin issue, although Joe Williams will not be available until January at the earliest.

Boubakary Soumare is a long-term absentee for the Foxes, the midfielder is suffering with a knee injury and a late January return is being targeted.

Aaron Ramsey is struggling with a hamstring strain and he will also miss the game at Ashton Gate.

The stats

These sides shared one victory apiece during this fixture two seasons ago. Bristol City won 1-0 at home in March 2024 following Leicester’s 1-0 victory at the King Power.

Those matches were the first between the club since the 2012/13 campaign. Bristol City have enjoyed the better head-to-head record since 2009, however.

Indeed, across 10 matches dating back to December 2009, they have won five times compared to four wins for Leicester.

In the Championship this season, the Robins have scored 26 goals, ranking them as one of the best attacking sides in the second tier.

The Foxes have scored just one fewer goal across their 19 matches, but they have conceded three more goals than their opponents.

Prediction

This should be a tight affair at Ashton Gate on Wednesday evening, but Leicester have the ability to emerge with all three points.

Against Derby they exploded out of the blocks, scoring three goals in the opening 31 minutes.

A similar start in Bristol would be most welcome and could see them vault into the top half of the table.

The home side will make things interesting, but the Foxes should make it back-to-back victories.
