  • Blackburn have scored in 10 of their last 13 home fixtures

  • Sheffield Wednesday have gone eight games without scoring

  • Recommended bet: Blackburn -1 on 3-way handicap

The pressure continues to mount for third-bottom Blackburn, who are desperate for a victory over basement boys Sheffield Wednesday at Ewood Park.

Rovers have gone nine matches without a win, triggering the departure of head coach Valerien Ismael.

However, they have 17 matches remaining and approach the next one knowing that a victory would move them out of the relegation zone.

While League One football is by no means certain for Rovers, it is merely a matter of time for Sheffield Wednesday, who find themselves 39 points inside the bottom three.

The Owls had a miserable January, losing all seven fixtures without scoring, and are getting used to life without club legend Barry Bannan, who sealed a recent transfer to Millwall.

Wednesdays’ players are showing no shortage of commitment but their lack of quality was evident on Saturday when they lost 1-0 at home to Wrexham.

Team news

Blackburn are still hampered by a busy treatment room with Scott Wharton, Sidnei Tavares, Ryan Hedges, Matty Litherland and Augustus Kargbo on the sidelines.

But there are options to freshen up the side, including forward Andri Gudjohnsen, who returned from injury as a substitute in Saturday’s loss at home to Hull.

Wednesday could include left back Tayo Adaramola, who has joined on loan from Crystal Palace.

But they remain threadbare due to the ongoing absences of injured contingent Pierce Charles, Dominic Iorfa, Di'Shon Bernard, Ernie Weaver, Max Lowe, Nathaniel Chalobah, George Brown and Ike Ugbo.

The stats

Seven of Blackburn’s last eight home fixtures have featured fewer than three goals.

Rovers are unbeaten in their last three matches against Sheffield Wednesday.

All of Wednesday’s last eight games have featured less than four goals.

The Owls have conceded the first goal in six of their last seven away matches.

Three of Wednesday’s last five defeats have come by a 2-0 scoreline.

Prediction

Blackburn are in the thick of the Championship relegation battle and can improve their survival chances by defeating Wednesday on home soil.

It has been a tough start to the year for Rovers, who have taken just three points from seven league fixtures.

A lack of offensive quality has been an issue but Rovers are starting to look stronger at the top end with Gudjohnsen back from a layoff and recent signing Mathias Jorgensen showing plenty of promise.

The Lancashire side should find at least a couple of goals against Wednesday and there might not be much of a response from the visitors, who are desperately short of quality.
