Phil Parkinson has Wrexham in the battle for a Championship play-off place
  • Birmingham City have picked up just four points in their last eight league games

  • Wrexham have won eight of their 20 away Championship games this season

  • Recommended bet: Wrexham to win

Birmingham stormed to the League One title last season, finishing 19 points clear of runners-up Wrexham but it is the Dragons, not the Blues, that remain right in the hunt for promotion from the Championship with the finishing line now in sight.

Phil Parkinson's side suffered a damaging defeat at home against fellow top-six contenders Southampton in midweek but all is not lost and victory at St Andrew's will keep them right in the hunt with four more games to come after this.

Chris Davies' side appears to have run out of gas and Birmingham have bagged just one win in eight games as their own play-off challenge has expired.

Team news

Alex Cochrane (ankle) and Kai Wagner (shoulder) remain sidelined for Birmingham, while Paik Seung-ho (knock) faces a late call on his fitness for the home side. Tomoki Iwata may come in for the last-named.

Forward Marvin Ducksch could earn a recall, while full-back Ethan Laird is another in the mix for a return.

Kieffer Moore appeared to suffer no issues on his return to the starting side after injury in the Saints loss and should keep his place for Wrexham. Liberato Cacace remains out injured for the visitors but Zak Vyner could displace Nathan Broadhead in midfield.

The stats

Birmingham City have picked up just four points in their last eight league games, losing six times.

The Blues have scored just four goals in that disappointing sequence of results.

Wrexham have won eight of their 20 away Championship games this season on their return to the second tier.

Over 2.5 goals have been scored in each of Wrexham's last four games.

These sides did not meet from 2006 to 2024, but both teams have scored in all three meeting since.

The last two clashes have ended in 1-1 draws.

Prediction

The midweek mauling from Southampton was Wrexham's sixth home loss of the season and they have now lost more games at the Racecourse Ground than on the road (5) this season.

Parkinson's side have shown genuine resilience in the Championship, however. They made a slow start with just two wins in the first 10 games but lost just three times in 20 games from late October through the end of January to really force their way into the play-off discussion.

It has become patchy recently, with the pressure mounting, but Wrexham have responded to their previous two Championship losses with a victory, ensuring they have rebounded in that style five times this season.

Birmingham were utterly dominant as League One winners last season but have found things tougher in the second tier, winning only 14 of their 41 games, losing 16 times.

Though the Blues have lost just three games at St Andrew's all season (W9, D8), two of those home league losses have come in the last four games and Wrexham could inflict another reverse with their need and hunger now much stronger than a home side counting down the games until they earn a summer rest.

Back Wrexham to win at 12/5 with LiveScore Bet.
