  • Birmingham have lost three straight Championship matches and sit in mid-table

  • QPR have also lost their last three games, failing to score while conceding 11

  • Recommended bet: Birmingham win and over 2.5 goals

Birmingham and Queens Park Rangers meet in the Championship at St Andrew's on Wednesday night with both sides aiming to end a run of three straight defeats.

Blues fans will hope to rely on their good overall home form this season to get the team over the line again, while the Hoops will be eager to stop falling down the table at such a critical time of the season with 10 games remaining.

Team news

Birmingham are without left-backs Alex Cochrane and Lee Buchanan but otherwise Blues boss Chris Davies has a full squad to choose from.

QPR, on the other hand, have a number of players sidelined. Kwame Poku is out until late March with a hamstring issue and Nicolas Madsen, Rumarn Burrell and Ilias Chair are all unavailable due to similar problems.

Justin Obikwu is struggling with a muscle injury, while Karamoko Dembele is out for the season after injuring his cruciate ligament.

The stats

Birmingham have lost three straight matches but had gone ten games unbeaten before their recent setback, winning six and drawing four across all competitions.

Queens Park Rangers have conceded at a rate of three goals per game in their last five Championship matches.

The Blues have lost their last two league matches against QPR, last suffering three defeats in a row at the hands of the Hoops back in April 2018.

QPR have won just one of their last nine away league games (drawing four and losing five), claiming a 3-1 victory at Hull in February.

Prediction

Birmingham have hit a rough patch at the worst possible time, with three straight defeats seeing the Blues drop down to 12th.

However, they are still just eight points off the play-off places with 10 games remaining, so Birmingham will be eager to return to winning ways on Wednesday to keep the season alive.

Queens Park Rangers visit St Andrew’s having also lost their last three matches, conceding 11 goals and failing to find the back of the net themselves in the process.

The Hoops will be desperate to halt their slide down the table but face a Birmingham side who had previously gone 10 games unbeaten before their run of three defeats.

Chris Davies’ men are favourites to win and look a smart bet for the three points.

It may also prove a wise choice to back over 2.5 goals when the sides meet as QPR have conceded four to Middlesbrough and five at Southampton in recent weeks.

Birmingham, meanwhile, have failed to score at home just once in the league this campaign and will be hoping to get the better of the Hoops’ leaky backline.
