Team news

Birmingham left-back Alex Cochrane is a doubt due to a muscle issue while Lee Buchanan and Scott Wright are sidelined with knee injuries. Willum Willumsson is unavailable until January while Ethan Laird won’t be back before February due to a hamstring problem.

Reece Burke has missed the last six Charlton games after picking up a foot injury while Amari’i Bell is unavailable due to a muscle issue.

Joshua Edwards is dealing with an ankle problem while forwards Charlie Kelman and Matty Godden remain sidelined.

The stats

Birmingham have scored 14 goals in their last four home games, netting at a rate of 3.5 goals per match.

Charlton have lost five straight matches for the first time since August 2023.

Birmingham have only lost one home game in the league this season - a 3-2 defeat against Hull in October - since the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

The Addicks have conceded 13 goals in four games and have kept just one clean sheet in their last eight matches.

Birmingham lost at home to Charlton in November 2015 as the Addicks claimed a 1-0 victory in the Championship.

Prediction

Birmingham head into Saturday’s Championship clash against Charlton on the back of two away defeats but will be confident of getting back to winning ways after enjoying four straight victories at home.

The Blues have enjoyed emphatic wins at St Andrew’s since the start of November, scoring 14 goals and conceding just twice to make it twelve points from 12.

That’s bad news for a Charlton side who have now lost five straight matches in the Championship. After a promising start back in the second tier, the Addicks, who were promoted from League One with Birmingham in May, have fallen apart in recent weeks.

The latest setback came midweek as Charlton trailed high-flying Boro 2-0 at half-time before going on to lose the game 2-1.

Conceding 13 times in just four matches, Nathan Jones’ team now travel to a Blues side who will be eager to create opportunities and enhance their recent goal haul.

With Birmingham recording goals at a rapid rate for and Charlton shipping so many, a home win and over 2.5 goals looks a smart pick.
