Birmingham have not turned out to be an irresistible force charging towards a second successive promotion in the Championship that some expected this season, but they have been strong at St Andrew's and can make it three home wins in a row when they host Bristol City on Saturday.

The Blues earned 111 points in League One last season but have had to settle for a solid 60 from their first 44 games this time around.

They will want to keep hold of the top-10 spot they currently hold and seven points from their last three matches suggests they are still focused on their mission.

Bristol City are only one point behind Birmingham and have had some decent runs this season, but they have won only two of their last 11 matches and have been successful in only one of their last six away games.

Team news

Birmingham's Ibrahim Osman must be cleared to play after going off with concussion in the first half against Preston on Wednesday. Demarai Gray is likely to start if Osman is ruled out while August Priske is likely to retain his starting place up front.

Bristol City are still without Max Bird (hamstring), Luke McNally (knee) and Rob Atkinson (ankle).

Prediction

Birmingham have given themselves hope for next season with a solid finish to their first campaign back in the second tier and they are set to finish higher than they did in any of the last eight seasons of their previous stint at this level.

The Blues have had some patches of poor form that have ultimately prevented them from challenging for a play-off place, but they have been generally strong at home with 11 wins and eight draws from 22 league games at St Andrew's.

Their last two home fixtures have brought an excellent 2-0 win over Wrexham and a 2-1 success against Preston and a repeat of Wednesday's scoreline looks possible.

City have been in decent goalscoring form, netting four times in their last two matches, despite taking only one point from a 4-2 home defeat by Norwich and a 2-2 draw at Southampton.

The result against the Saints was impressive as the Robins became the first team in nine games to deny the south-coast side victory, but there should be a buzzing atmosphere for Birmingham's last home game of the year and the hosts can come out on top of a match in which both teams score.
