Edvin Austbø's former teammate could also join West Ham from Viking
West Ham United signed Edvin Austbø from Viking over the summer. He has since made four appearances in the Championship, scoring once and making one assist. The winger is currently with Norway's Under-21s on international duty.
Ontheminute.com has reported that, "West Ham United are keeping an eye on Viking midfielder Tobias Moi after strengthening their link with the Norwegian club through Edvin Austbø’s recent arrival.
"The Hammers are monitoring Moi’s development, although there has been no formal approach for the 20-year-old. Middlesbrough and Birmingham City have also been linked with the Viking talent."
Moi is a central midfielder who has played for Viking 23 times, scoring once and making one assist. He has also spent time at Åsane, in the second tier of Norwegian football. The player can also play in the holding midfield role and at right-back.
The midfielder is also part of Norway's U21s, who are currently competing in European Championship qualifiers. Moi has represented Norway from the U16s to this level. He is also eligible to play for Senegal.
Tobias Moi could be a versatile option for West Ham United
It is not uncommon for two players to join West Ham in quick succession from the same club. Tomas Soucek made an immediate impact with the Hammers when he joined from Slavia Prague. Vladomir Coufal soon also arrived at the London Stadium from the Czech side.
West Ham could do with boosting their central midfield options. They currently only have Arne Engels and Lewis Orford in the position. Divine Mukasa is more of an attacking midfielder. Mohamadou Kanté is predominantly a defensive midfielder, but he has been used in more attacking roles recently.
Soucek is only just returning from the injury he sustained at the World Cup. Soungoutou Magassa and Edson Alvarez have not featured recently after failing to secure moves away from the club. Magassa has featured in a recent training photo on West Ham's official pages. This has sparked speculation that he could soon be reintegrated into the side.
Moi will also be an option for Kyle Walker-Peters and Joel Veltman at right-back. West Ham would appear to be the best option for him, especially as he will be reunited with Austbø. Middlesbrough may also be a tempting move, as they made the playoff final last season and are currently third in the Championship.
Birmingham is an ambitious club, which is 10th in the division, which is only four points behind West Ham and Boro. Along with these clubs, Moi has also been linked with Besiktas. They are one of the top Turkish sides and are competing in the Europa League this campaign. However, going to a Championship side that has a chance of promotion to the Premier League would be a smarter option for Moi at this stage in his career.
