Brazil secured an emphatic victory at the end of the international break

Brazil rounded off the international break in style on Saturday, brushing India aside 4-0 in a friendly at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.

The two nations had never met before, and this was the first time Brazil had ever played on Indian soil.

Estêvão got the Seleção up and running on 28 minutes. The Chelsea man picked up the ball on the right, shook off his marker, cut inside and lashed a left-footed finish into the net.

Pedro made it two in the 42nd minute. The Flamengo striker latched onto a pass from Estêvão and bundled the ball home after a touch from India goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, sending Brazil in two goals to the good at the break.

The second half brought more of the same. Samuel Lino drove into the box and struck low to the keeper's left to make it three on 58 minutes, and the Flamengo man wrapped up the scoring in the fifth minute of stoppage time for a comfortable 4-0 win.

Vinícius Júnior started for Brazil before Carlo Ancelotti pulled him at half-time to introduce Samuel Lino. Raphinha, in sparkling form for Barcelona of late, missed out through injury.

Brazil had come into the game off two friendlies against Australia, a 1-1 draw followed by a 4-2 victory.

India, meanwhile, sit 138th in the FIFA rankings and have never reached a World Cup. Brazil are the highest-ranked opponent they have faced since the rankings began in 1992.
