  • Rayo have won five of their six home Conference League games

  • Strasbourg lost the first leg at Mainz in the previous round

  • Recommended bet: Rayo Vallecano

Strasbourg are the deserved favourites to qualify for the final going into their Conference League last-four showdown with Rayo Vallecano but the French outfit may have to produce another comeback.

Le Racing lost 2-0 in Germany to Mainz in the previous round but made their home advantage count in the return fixture to win 4-2 on aggregate.

Rayo have lost only twice at home in Spain’s La Liga and they have been close to perfect at their Campo de Futbol de Vallecas base in Europe as well, with five wins in six games at this venue in the Conference League.

Team news

Rayo defender Luiz Felipe looks set to miss a third straight game through the injury he picked up against AEK Athens in the previous round.

Alvaro Garcia was also injured in that game and Thursday’s clash will come too soon for the midfielder, while Diego Mendez is a long-term absentee.

Strasbourg will be without Valentin Barco due to suspension, although he would have been unavailable anyway as he is carrying an ankle injury.

Aaron Anselmino, who is on loan from Chelsea, is unlikely to feature again this season after sustaining a hamstring injury and top scorer Joaquin Panichelli is out for the season with an ACL injury that will see him miss the start of the 2026/27 campaign.

Rayo have conceded just three goals in those six home games.

Prediction

Rayo Vallecano enjoy home advantage in the first leg and they look well placed to claim a lead when they entertain Strasbourg in the Puente de Vallecas district of Madrid.

RSC go into the tie as deserved favourites after crushing Mainz in the previous round but they had to respond after a first leg-loss in Germany in that tie.

Rayo have been excellent at home all season across all competitions. The La Liga club have won five of their six Conference League games at this venue and their one defeat came against Samsunspor, where the 1-0 loss they suffered was as good as a victory as they had already built up a 3-1 lead in the first leg.

Le Racing are struggling with some massive injury blows and the loss of star forward Panichelli has proved to be particularly costly. They go into this game in mixed form with three defeats and three wins in the six matches Panichelli has missed, and Rayo look poised to take advantage.

Strasbourg know they are more than capable of overturning a deficit in the second leg in France and they will probably look to keep this game tight rather than come out and try and win on the night.

Rayo have enough quality to grind out a win in front of their own fans, and Strasbourg are unlikely to take too many risks even if they do fall behind as they will likely view a one-goal defeat as a manageable result in this first leg in Spain.
