Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro and Moises Caicedo all have October 10 against Bournemouth listed as a potential return date, but Chelsea have not confirmed any of the three are fit.

Three Chelsea injury timelines point towards Bournemouth

The Evening Standard’s September 27 injury update puts all three in the frame for the home match, after Chelsea entered the international break with a number of fitness concerns. That date is a possibility, not confirmation that any player will be available.

Palmer withdrew from England duty with a minor muscular problem that Chelsea are managing. Load management was also considered a likely factor, with the club keen to avoid a repeat of the persistent groin issue that disrupted him last season. Chelsea’s cautious handling of Palmer’s fitness makes a full return something to assess, not assume.

Pedro hurt his knee in the 2-2 draw with Hull and missed the subsequent Brentford match. Xabi Alonso indicated he might face a late fitness test before that game, but the forward did not feature and later withdrew from Brazil’s squad. The Standard’s report said three weeks of rest over the international break could help him return against Bournemouth; his possible Bournemouth comeback remains just that.

Caicedo’s situation needs particular care. He has played only 14 minutes this season, after returning against Brighton from a calf problem and being forced off again less than a quarter of an hour later. Alonso apologised for rushing him back, and Caicedo then missed Brentford. The report suggested he could be in contention after the further rest period, while Chelsea’s management of his recovery remains an important part of the picture.

For Alonso, the three decisions would affect different parts of the team. Pedro’s availability would give Chelsea back a forward absent since the Hull match, while Palmer’s return would restore a key attacking option-provided the club is satisfied his muscle issue is settled. Caicedo’s case is less straightforward: the Brighton setback and missed Brentford fixture make it difficult to treat him as an automatic starter, even if he is cleared to return.

The practical test is whether the trio can resume training and convince Chelsea’s staff they are ready for the demands of the Bournemouth match. October 10 is the potential date given for each, but assessment and selection decisions still lie ahead.

In other news…

Caicedo’s recovery and Ecuador omission remain relevant to his return timeline.

Joao Pedro’s potential Bournemouth return is another key fitness question for Chelsea.
