Chelsea star’s withdrawal from international duty confirmed amid injury concern

Jamie Gittens’ withdrawal from the England Under-21 squad because of an injury concern has now been officially confirmed.

The Chelsea winger has been forced to return to the club following an ankle problem suffered on England Under-21 duty.

Gittens picked up the issue during England U21s’ 4-2 win over Kazakhstan and will now head back to Chelsea for further assessment.

The winger had been involved for the Young Lions during the international break but will play no further part as a result of the injury.

Chelsea will now wait to discover the extent of the problem and whether Gittens will be available when club football resumes.
