Chelsea are assessing Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo and Joao Pedro ahead of the Bournemouth match, with Palmer and Caicedo targeting October 10 and Pedro’s return expected later in the month.

Palmer and Caicedo could face Bournemouth as Pedro targets October return

Yahoo’s latest injury update lists Saturday October 10 against Bournemouth as a potential return date for Palmer and Caicedo. Joao Pedro’s timeline is less immediate: his exact comeback date remains unclear, with a return later in October the current expectation.

The dates are targets, not confirmation of availability or a place in the starting XI. Chelsea will assess the trio before their Premier League return, and the distinction matters when Xabi Alonso plans for a game after an international break.

Pedro missed the 3-0 defeat by Brentford after suffering an injury, then withdrew from Brazil’s squad. The report says he has been receiving treatment from a knee specialist, while initial reports in Brazil suggested he could be out for up to four weeks. His importance to Chelsea’s squad planning makes the uncertainty a significant concern.

Palmer also withdrew from the latest England squad. After a season disrupted by a long-term groin problem, he was reported to be working on his fitness with a rehabilitation coach. There is hope he could be available against Bournemouth, but the report does not confirm he will be ready to start. His absence from England duty forms part of the wider uncertainty around his immediate availability.

Caicedo has managed just 14 minutes this season, in a substitute appearance against Brighton that quickly ended with him being withdrawn. A persistent calf issue has kept him out, and he was not called up by Ecuador for its friendlies to help his recovery. He missed the Brentford match, but had been described as close to a return; Bournemouth is possible if there have been no further setbacks. His time away from Ecuador duty gave him a chance to focus on recovery.

The absences have coincided with Chelsea losing form and momentum under Alonso, and the report identifies Pedro as the biggest loss among the sidelined players. Getting Palmer and Caicedo back would help, but Chelsea cannot plan as though either is certain to be available for the full match. Pedro’s later-October target leaves a separate question for the attack.

The immediate test is whether Palmer and Caicedo progress into contention during the week before Bournemouth, and whether Pedro’s recovery keeps him on course for an October return. The report also lists Reece James, Marco Palestra and Emmanuel Emegha as possible Bournemouth returnees, but their availability, like that of the trio, is not confirmed.

Cole Palmer’s England absence adds context to Chelsea’s assessment of the forward’s fitness.

Moises Caicedo’s Ecuador omission reflects the opportunity he has had to concentrate on his calf recovery.
