Phil Parkinson's Wrexham will be looking to make home advantage count after suffering an agonising defeat first up at Southampton
  • Newly-promoted Wrexham play host to Ryan Mason’s West Brom

  • Leicester head to Preston bidding to make it two wins from two

  • Last season’s Premier League rivals Ipswich and Southampton duel at Portman Road

The second round of Championship fixtures gets under way on Saturday, with three 12.30pm kick-offs followed by seven more at 3pm, while there are two more games on Sunday.

Here, we look ahead to some of the big games from the weekend, picking out some key team news.

Wrexham vs West Brom (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Wrexham suffered a last-gasp 2-1 defeat in their Championship curtain-raiser at Southampton but they will be looking to make amends in front of a sell-out crowd against West Brom.

The famously-owned Red Dragons could be set to line up without Kiefer Moore, who was substituted against the Saints, while Andy Cannon, Oliver Rathbone, George Thomason and Jay Rodriguez remain sidelined.

For the Baggies, the injury-ravaged Daryl Dike and Tammer Bany are ruled out while Darnell Furlong is suspended following last week’s dismissal in the 1-0 win at home to Blackburn.

Derby vs Coventry (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Derby went into the new season with a number of injury concerns and it showed in their opening trip to Stoke, where they were readily outclassed in a 3-1 defeat.

The Rams will continue to be without Curtis Nelson, Kane Wilson, Lars-Jorgen Salvesen, Patrick Agyemang and Sondre Langas for the foreseeable future, while Owen Beck is short on match sharpness and Corey Blackett-Taylor is a doubt.

Things are far less concerning for Coventry, who started their campaign with a goalless draw at home to Hull, as goalkeeper Oliver Dovin is their only confirmed absentee. However, Ben Sheaf and Josh Eccles will face late fitness tests.

Millwall vs Middlesbrough (Saturday, 3pm)

Millwall and Middlesbrough both started the new season with a victory, as the Lions edged to a 2-1 success at Norwich while Boro recorded a slender 1-0 win at home to Swansea.

The Lions will be without goalkeeper Lukas Jensen and defender Joe Bryan but forward Josh Coburn will be expected to start against his former club.

Rob Edwards’ visitors are unable to call upon experienced defenders Darragh Lenihan and George Edmundson while Rav van den Berg has departed, signing a five-year deal with German club Cologne.

Preston vs Leicester (Saturday, 3pm)

Leicester were far from their best in Sunday’s 2-1 win at home to stricken Sheffield Wednesday and they will be looking for an improved display at Preston, who opened up with a 1-1 draw at QPR.

The Foxes remain without Victor Kristiansen, Ricardo Pereira, Harry Souttar and Bobby De Cordova-Reid, while Preston have Robbie Brady, Daniel Jebbison, Jordan Thompson and Liam Lindsay on the sidelines.

Ipswich Town vs Southampton (Sunday, noon)

This was a Premier League contest last season and, while Ipswich were held to a 1-1 draw at Birmingham in their first Championship clash, Southampton came from behind to beat Wrexham 2-1.

The Tractor Boys will be without Wes Burns, Conor Townsend and Jaden Philogene while new signing Chuba Akpom is not yet fit enough to play and Nathan Broadhead is set to sign for Wrexham.

Tyler Dibling still seeks a move away from Southampton so is inactive but Taylor Harwood-Bellis is back in contention and new arrival Damion Downs will be seeking a first league start.
