  • Tottenham were hammered 5-2 in the first leg

  • Spurs will have one eye on upcoming Premier League schedule

  • Recommended bet: Atletico Madrid to win

Tottenham will be playing for pride when they welcome Atletico Madrid to London for Wednesday's Champions League second-leg clash in the last 16.

Spurs were embarrassed in Madrid last week, as they fell to a 5-2 defeat on their travels. Caretaker boss Igor Tudor managed to tempt the club's board to keep him in the dugout and he rewarded them by helping Spurs secure a shock 1-1 draw against Liverpool on Sunday.

Atletico were victorious in their home clash against Getafe and, after that 1-0 win, they will expect to record another victory when they visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this week.

Team News

Tudor will once again be without a host of first-team players, with Yves Bissouma, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and Wilson Odobert all still sidelined.

Striker Richarlison is suspended, while Conor Gallagher, Destiny Udogie, Cristian Romero and Joao Palhinha will need to pass fitness tests to feature.

Defender Micky van de Ven will return after missing the draw with Liverpool through suspension.

Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak will miss out due to a muscular issue, meaning Juan Musso should start in goal.

Rodrigo Mendoza remains sidelined, while Pablo Barrios is considered a doubt.

The stats

Tottenham are winless in eight matches in all competitions, with their last victory coming against Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of January.

Spurs have lost three games in a row at home and are winless in front of their own fans in four outings.

Tudor's side have conceded two or more goals in four consecutive home games in all competitions.

Atletico Madrid have won their last three games in all competitions, while they have been victorious in six of their previous seven.

Spurs have won just three of their 16 meetings against Spanish sides in all European competitions.

Prediction

Tottenham's 1-1 draw against Arne Slot's Liverpool was at least a sign that there's some fight left in Tudor's squad.

That point could go a long way to helping them secure survival in the Premier League, which will be Spurs' priority in the coming weeks.

A three-goal deficit against Atleti looks far too much for them to overturn at home to even take the game to extra-time.

Atletico barely had to break sweat in the first leg and it is a surprise to see them at odds against considering the manner of that success.

Their recent form suggests they will not let their guard down and they should be able to outclass a Tottenham side that have bigger fish to fry for the rest of the campaign.
