  • Recommended bet: Alexander Sorloth to score

There was drama galore at the Camp Nou as Atletico Madrid caused a surprise by beating 10-man Barcelona 2-0 in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie.

They battle again at the Metropolitano on Tuesday with Barca aiming to mount another potential comeback after almost recovering from a 4-0 first-leg deficit in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.

The Champions League and that Copa final against Real Sociedad on April 18 will define Atletico's season, as shown by Diego Simeone making wholesale changes for Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Sevilla.

Meanwhile, Barcelona extended their LaLiga lead by beating local rivals Espanyol 4-1 but could be undone by a player who so often proves to be a thorn in their side.

Team news

Atletico's Marc Pubil is suspended for the second leg and the player he replaced, David Hancko, is a doubt with an ankle injury, so ex-Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet could come in.

Jose Gimenez (knock), Johnny Cardoso (adductor) and Pablo Barrios (thigh) are also struggling, but Jan Oblak might be available following an abdominal issue.

Barcelona are without defender Pau Cubarsi following his red card in the opening leg.

Eric Garcia could slot into central defence after recently featuring in midfield, while Gerard Martin is an option if he recovers from the knock he picked up against Espanyol.

Midfield pair Frenkie De Jong and Marc Bernal are both thought to be closing on fitness but Raphinha (hamstring) and Andreas Christensen (ACL) are definitely absent.

The stats

Both teams have scored in nine of Atletico Madrid's last 10 European games.

Los Colchoneros have scored at least twice in five of their last six home games in the Champions League.

Barcelona have conceded in their last 14 Champions League games and six of their last seven away matches in continental competition have produced over 2.5 goals.

Atletico striker Alexander Sorloth has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 14 career appearances against Barcelona.

Prediction

It was a double-whammy for Barcelona in the closing stages of the first half last week, when Cubarsi's red card was compounded by Julian Alvarez's opener from the resulting free-kick.

Sorloth then came off the bench to double his team's advantage with 20 minutes to go and they have cause for optimism, having won six of their last seven at the Metropolitano.

However, that defeat was a 2-1 league reverse to Barcelona on April 4 and they could be vulnerable.

It is tough to envisage Atletico not scoring, though, especially with Sortloth's record against the Blaugrana.

The Norwegian's strike at Camp Nou was his seventh in 14 career appearances against Barca and he is again expected to play the final half hour or so.

Whoever occupies the central defensive positions will need to be at their best to counter both his aerial threat and clever movement.
