If you thought our Premier League team of the season looked invincible, we’ll raise you our Champions League team of the season, and honestly, we’re not quite sure the football world is ready for such firepower.
Let’s start by building this team from the back. Nobody can argue with the selection of Arsenal’s David Raya between the sticks. The triple Golden Glove winner thrived for his team, which were invincible all season in Europe, only losing out to PSG on penalties in the final. He managed 9 clean sheets in 14 games, the most of any goalkeeper in the competition, making 37 saves. Arsenal’s run was built on him locking the door and hiding the key.
The full-back roles go to two winners, Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes of PSG. The ever-solid and consistent Hakimi racked up 6 assists this season and played his part with a cool penalty in the final shootout.
On his opposite flank, their left-sided rocket Mendes joins the team. He played the third-most Champions League minutes this season en route to glory.
At centre-back, yes, he may have missed Arsenal’s decisive penalty in the shootout, but Gabriel was a monster this season in centre-back. 12 games, 1,002 minutes, 61 balls recovered, 89.75% passing accuracy and a goal.
He’s partnering up with Leverkusen’s defensive ballast Edmond Tapsoba. A huge 91% pass accuracy, 19 tackles 54 balls recovered in 811 minutes played. Consistency in defence matters.
The midfield pairing of Vitinha and Dominik Szoboszlai is just us playing EA Sports FC 26. Vitinha has the player of the match in the final, and played the second-most minutes this season. Szoboszlai stood out for Liverpool with five goals and four assists while racking up over 11km match. He simply never stopped.
We’re as excited by Lamine Yamal as you are. Still a teenager, already a Champions League killer: Six goals and four assists in 10 matches. Enough said, really.
He starts next to Michael Olise, the assist king. Eight assists, joint-highest, plus 5 goals. That’s 13 direct goal involvements in 13 matches!
Pure Firepower
That scrumptious midfield is the fuel for the explosive frontline. A dynamic duo of Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe. Competition top scorer Mbappe got 15 goals, while Kane was only one shy. Our frontline has got firepower, pace and experience. Just a little reminder that Harry Kane got 61 goals in 51 matches in all competitions this season.
