Ferran Torres has now scored five goals in four games at new club Paris Saint-Germain, netting a hat-trick on his Champions League debut for his new club.

PSG are back-to-back Champions League champions, and only three clubs have ever won it three seasons on the spin. Amid some below-par league form, the French club showed their muscle in their European opener.

In Ligue 1, the defending champions have had a pretty woeful start, picking up just two points from their opening three games. But the Champions League is where they come to play, and they did so in good style with a 6-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava to open their account for the season.

After bagging a brace on his league debut following his statement move from Barcelona, World Cup hero Torres scored his third, fourth and fifth goals for the season as he sunk the Slovak side with a first career Champions League hat-trick.

The Spaniard scored goals of different types, beating the keeper with an outstretched leg for his first, before he screamed for the ball on the edge of the area from Maghnes Akliouche for his second, taking a touch to get it out his feet before bending it past the keeper for his second.

To confirm the hat-trick, Torres got his right boot on the end of a corner to turn home on the half volley - un ungainly finish but an important one.

Ferran Torres and Ousmane Dembele forming important partnership

One of the most exciting parts of the performance for PSG will have been watching Torres and Ousmane Dembele - two goals and two assists of his own - dovetail in attack.

The pair had not started a game together this season before the 6-1 victory, and this performance confirms one thing, if nothing else - they should.

In those two, PSG have a pair who are as comfortable out wide as they are through the middle, and they appeared to know exactly where the other was in the thumping victory.

A look at their heatmaps shows how Torres floated out left and through the middle, while Dembele drifted out right to give Torres space, if he himself was not the man stationed in the centre.

It was he who assisted Torres for his first and third goals, both whipped exactly where the Spaniard wanted them.

Torres could have returned the favour twice. Early in the first half, he picked the ball up near the halfway line and immediately slotted Dembele past the defence, with the Frenchman getting his finish wrong.

Not long after, it was Torres who had broken behind the defence, and headed a bouncing ball across the face of the goal, where Dembele, stood on the edge of the six-yard box, saw his finish saved by the keeper, who managed unknowingly to stick it up onto the bar.

It must be said that Slovan Bratislava is not the hardest task for PSG - they will face Manchester City and Barcelona in the league phase of this competition.

But beating them has told Luis Enrique that he's got a potent attacking duo who now have the confidence of knowing both that they are in good form and they can make each other better.
