Conceicao fires Milan warning to Amorim: “People think you have to win the Champions League”

Sergio Conceicao has spoken out again about his time at AC Milan, distancing himself from blame regarding the 2024-25 failures.

Conceicao was appointed as the mid-season successor to his compatriot Paulo Fonseca, who didn’t even make it until the end of the calendar year. Things started well for the former Porto boss, with a Supercoppa Italiana win just a few days in, but then everything declined from there.

Ultimately it became obvious towards the end of the season that Conceicao would not be having his six-month deal extended. This was confirmed when Milan lost the Coppa Italia final 1-0 to Bologna at the Stadio Olimpico, meaning no European football at all after an eighth-placed finish.

Conceicao gave an interview to DAZN about his time at Milan as well as his most recent spell at Al Ittihad. He concluded with a wish for his colleague Ruben Amorim, who has been an opponent several times. His words are via MilanPress.

“I spent six months at Milan and things didn’t go very well. However, we managed to win a Super Cup and reach the Coppa Italia final. Amorim said that Milan won two league titles in twenty years, and that’s true,” he said.

“I brought home a cup in six months. Then it was confirmed that the coach wasn’t the main problem. Obviously, I was to blame, and I don’t want to escape my responsibilities, but we saw how Allegri and the club were all sacked.

“I want to send a hug to Ruben. I wish him the best of luck on this new journey, which isn’t easy at all. Especially given the pressure at Milan. People think you have to win the Champions League or the league every year.”
