Celtic could be handed an additional Champions League cash boost this season — depending on results elsewhere in the play-offs.

Martin O’Neill’s side must first overcome LASK over two legs to secure their place in the league phase, with the Austrian champions standing between the Hoops and another major European payday.

Qualification would already be worth around £40million to Celtic, but UEFA’s financial distribution system means that figure could rise depending on which other clubs reach the competition proper.

Part of the prize money is distributed through UEFA’s Value Pillar, which takes into account factors including clubs’ European coefficients and television market rankings.

According to Football Meets Data, Celtic therefore have reason to keep an eye on several other play-off ties.

Should Fenerbahce eliminate Lyon, Celtic could receive an additional €1.28million — around £1.09m — through the Value Pillar.

There could be another significant boost if NEC knock out Bodo/Glimt, with that result potentially moving Celtic one place higher in the five-year coefficient and TV market rankings and adding approximately €940,000 (£803,000).

Viking FK eliminating Dinamo Zagreb could also be worth a further €350,000 (£300,000) to the Scottish champions.

Combined, those three results could potentially add more than £2million to Celtic’s Champions League income.
