10 Champions League stats you may have missed this week
The Champions League is back and the opening round has already produced plenty beyond the scorelines. From Lamine Yamal rewriting Barcelona history to Arsenal extending a remarkable European run, here are 10 stats worth knowing from Matchday 1.
1. Yamal becomes Barcelona's youngest captain
Another record belongs to Lamine Yamal. The 19-year-old became Barcelona's youngest-ever first-team captain, taking the armband during their 5-1 win over Feyenoord at just 19 years and 58 days old. He also scored his 12th Champions League goal.

3. Raphinha closes in on Kane
Raphinha's brace against Feyenoord took him to 18 goals and 10 assists in the Champions League since the start of 2024/25. That's 28 goal involvements, putting him right among Europe's most productive attackers over that period.
4. Liverpool have turned the tables on Atletico
Atletico Madrid once had Liverpool's number. Not anymore. After winning only one of their first six European meetings with Atleti, Liverpool have now beaten the Spanish side four times in a row.
5. Arsenal make it 13 straight
Arsenal's 1-0 victory at Napoli was their 13th consecutive Champions League league/group-stage win. Only Bayern Munich's 17-game run between 2020 and 2023 is longer in the competition's history.
6. Ødegaard is suddenly a goalscorer
Martin Ødegaard's winner in Naples was his fourth goal in five appearances this season. He managed only one across the whole of 2025/26. Three of his six career Champions League goals have now come from outside the box.
7. Arsenal battered Napoli statistically
The 1-0 scoreline did not tell the whole story. Arsenal attempted 26 shots, their most in a Champions League match since Opta's records began in 2003/04. It was also the most Napoli have ever faced in the competition.
8. Napoli finally lose back-to-back at home
Arsenal also inflicted an unwanted piece of history on Napoli. The Serie A side have now lost consecutive Champions League home matches for the first time. Half of Napoli's six home defeats in the competition have come against English opposition.
9. Dembélé needed just minutes to explode
Ousmane Dembélé scored twice in PSG's 6-1 demolition of Slovan Bratislava, finding the net in the 17th and 23rd minutes before PSG ran riot. Ferran Torres then stole the show with a hat-trick on his Champions League debut for the holders.
10. Demirovic produced a 12-minute hat-trick
Ermedin Demirovic wasted no time announcing himself on Matchday 1. The Stuttgart striker scored a first-half hat-trick inside just 12 minutes as the German side beat Viking 3-1.
