What Thomas Müller and Mats Hummels have to do with it: Bayern Munich could apparently let a sought-after midfielder leave
Bayern Munich are apparently aiming for another loan move for midfield talent Felipe Chavez, who has impressed in pre-season.
As Bild report, the list of interested clubs is growing. According to the report, 1. FC Magdeburg are leading the chase for Chavez, while Eintracht Braunschweig and 1. FC Heidenheim are also said to be two other second-division clubs in the running.
Heidenheim only recently got a close look at the 19-year-old's quality. Chavez started Bayern's 4-2 friendly win at FCH last week, impressed throughout and made it 1-1 with a superb free-kick from just over 20 metres after winning it himself.
Back at the start of February, Bayern had already sent Chavez out on loan once, but the home-grown FCB player did not get the opportunities they had hoped for at Bundesliga club 1. FC Cologne and made only seven substitute appearances for FC. At Säbener Strasse, though, Chavez then caught the eye throughout pre-season and made a strong impression, even if the prospect of regular game time remains slim given the huge competition in the record champions' central midfield. According to Bild, club and player have therefore now decided to push through another loan before the end of the summer transfer window at the beginning of September.
Are Thomas Müller and Mats Hummels tempting an FC Bayern top talent?
Alongside the interested second-division clubs, Bild also bring another intriguing option into the conversation. According to the report, Portuguese top-flight club Estrela Amadora are also working on a temporary move for Chavez. And since Tuesday it has been official that an investor group including the four former Bayern stars Thomas Müller (now Vancouver Whitecaps), Mats Hummels (retired), Yann Sommer (Club Brugge) and Lucas Hernandez (Paris Saint-Germain) has bought into Estrela Amadora. According to the Portuguese newspaper A Bola, the group are said to have acquired 90 per cent of the share capital for €40 million.
Müller, Hummels and Co. are primarily meant to act as strategically minded investors and are expected to help the club from a suburb of Lisbon move forward with their expertise, reach and network. The man driving the arrival of those big names at the relatively unknown club on the international stage is also very familiar at Säbener Strasse: Johannes Mösmang. The 35-year-old had worked for Bayern as a player manager since 2016 and is now the president of Estrela Amadora.
How often has Felipe Chavez played for FC Bayern so far?
That could tighten the lines of communication between the team who finished 15th in Liga Portugal last season and FCB, which in turn could favour a Chavez loan to Amadora. It was only in mid-July that another midfield talent, Lovro Zvonarek, moved from Bayern to Estrela for a fee of €1.5 million.
Chavez joined FCB's academy in 2019 as a 12-year-old from FC Augsburg, and he has so far made two brief appearances for the first team. In January 2026, he celebrated his Bundesliga debut with a short cameo in the 8-1 win against Wolfsburg, and shortly before the loan to Cologne he was also brought on in late January in the 1-2 defeat against Augsburg. Despite his still limited professional experience, Chavez, the son of a German mother and a father from Peru, is already a Peru senior international. In October 2025, the youngster made his debut and in the 1-2 friendly defeat against Chile made what remains his only international appearance to date.
