Watch: Jurgen Klopp’s brilliant reaction as Mika Baur makes historic Germany debut
The 22-year-old was handed his international debut by Jurgen Klopp, becoming the 1000th player to represent the German national team.
Germany were already two goals ahead through Tom Bischof and Florian Wirtz when Baur was introduced for the final 14 minutes.
And the Celtic star shared a memorable moment with Klopp immediately before stepping onto the pitch.
TV cameras captured the former Liverpool boss embracing Baur on the touchline, clutching his face and kissing him on the cheek before delivering some final words of encouragement.
Baur could be seen beaming as he listened to his manager before heading onto the field for his historic debut.
It completes a remarkable few months for the midfielder following his summer move to Celtic, with Baur himself admitting his switch to Parkhead accelerated his international ambitions quicker than he expected.
Speaking after his call-up for the Nations League matches against Serbia and Greece, Baur said: “Until I got the phone call about a call-up, playing for Germany felt very distant and far away.
“I knew that Celtic was the next step in my career, but I didn’t expect it to be such a big step.
“It was just as surprising for me, probably as it was for all of you, that I’m here!
“I’m trying to absorb everything here. Of course, you want to make a name for yourself, leave your mark, ideally play and ultimately get some minutes.”
