Ole Book hints at Guirassy and Silva strike partnership for Paderborn clash
Serhou Guirassy and Fabio Silva have been all the rage this season. Both of Borussia Dortmund's forwards are on a rich vein of form and have even linked up to devastating effect in their recent games.
It has sparked the potential rise of a new and exciting attacking partnership at the club, one akin to which club legends Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Marco Reus forged during their time together with the BVB.
Head coach Niko Kovac also discussed this recently, hinting a potential change in formation to accomodate both Guirassy and Silva upfront. But now, even Nils-Ole Book has weighed in on the issue, revealing that it's something the club has internally 'talked about'.
I don’t want to get ahead of the coach when it comes to tactical systems and formations. Of course, we talk about it, and when players perform well and make themselves available, then naturally you consider how different players fit together.
Book added that the attacking vanguard isn't the only place within the squad where Dortmund could be making changes to.
But that doesn’t just apply to Fabio—it also applies to other players who have performed well. Fortunately, there are a few positions where we might face some tough decisions, but that’s exactly why we want to have a squad like this.
Fabio Silva, signed on a 22.5 million euro transfer from Premier League side Wolves last year, struck only three goals and made six assists in all competitions for Dortmund during 2025-26 season.
He was largely second-fiddle to Guirassy but also struggled to make a case for himself in the few chances where the Portuguese led the line for the BVB.
But in the new season, Silva finally appears to have found his attacking boots. He scored one goal each in his first three appearances before bagging an assist in the Villarreal game.
The 24-year-old has had a direct goal-contribution in every appearance he's made this season, which is a massively positive sign as it gives Dortmund's attack a new dimension.
Likewise, Guirassy has been firing on all cylinders too. Besides the Supercup loss to Bayern last month, the Guinean ace has found the net in all the other three games he's played in, accounting for a total of four goals whilst also picking up one assist along the way.
Whether both of them start together against Paderborn remains to be seen. But if Guirassy and Silva sustain this form for the long haul, Dortmund would be unstoppable.
