Loan without an option to buy: Borussia Mönchengladbach are reportedly set to sign former Bayern player

Borussia Mönchengladbach are reportedly close to signing Nicolas Kühn on loan from Como.

This is reported by Sky. The report says the 26-year-old is currently undergoing his medical with the Foals and is set to sign a contract until next summer. Gladbach have already reached an agreement with the Italians, but the Bundesliga club have not secured an option to buy the attacking player.

Kühn had only joined Como from Celtic in Glasgow last summer in a €19 million deal. But he managed only six starts for the club, who sensationally reached the Champions League in Serie A. All told, Kühn contributed one goal and two assists for the Italians.

From U15 level onwards, Kühn was regarded as a huge talent and played for Germany’s youth national teams. He came through the academies at St. Pauli, Hannover and RB Leipzig before moving to Ajax Amsterdam at the age of 18. Two years later, he joined Bayern Munich on loan and the club then signed him permanently in the summer of 2020 without paying a transfer fee. After another loan spell at Erzgebirge Aue, Rapid Vienna made their move in 2022 and signed Kühn for just €500,000, only to sell him to Glasgow a year and a half later for ten times that amount. That was where he kicked on, recording an impressive 42 goal involvements in 69 competitive appearances and attracting the attention of even bigger clubs.

"At some point I want to make it into the national team," Kühn said in kicker in the summer of 2024. The loan move to Gladbach now appears to have put him in a much better position to impress new Germany head coach Jürgen Klopp with strong performances in the Bundesliga.
