Is Bayern squad good enough to win the Champions League?
Bayern Munich will start their 2026-27 Champions League campaign on Thursday.
The German champions will kick-off their European campaign against FK Bodo/Glimt at the Allianz Arena.
While Bayern are top favourites once again to win the Bundesliga, all eyes will be on their European adventure this season.
Can Bayern Munich win the Champions League?
Last season, Bayern Munich lost in the semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain in a closely fought content.
Vincent Kompany will hope that his side will not only recapture the old form, but even go one step higher and reach the finals.
Bayern have retained the core squad of last season, and bolstered their forward department by adding Isamel Saibari.
The German champions have also added a versatile player in Nathaniel Brown, who can play in multiple positions, but mostly used in full-back areas.
Christian Falk believes that Bayern have the squad to win the competition this term. Speaking to CFBayern, the Bild journalist said:
Yes, I think Bayern Munich were already very happy with the team they had, but it was always the case that there weren’t enough players in the squad. The first-XI was really top, top, top – the gap between FC Bayern and PSG in the Champions League semi-final last season was incredibly tight.
Bayern Munich simply needed more players. It’s interesting that some of the players the Ligue 1 champions went on to sign and sell this summer – Mika Godts and Bradley Barcola – were also on the list of Bayern Munich. In the end, they decided to go for Ismael Saibari, and they got him. The Moroccan is a fantastic option to address concerns around the squad, as they need a backup for Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala.
So, I think FC Bayern are stronger than they were last year, and perhaps strong enough to beat PSG this year. Beyond that, I don’t think there are many teams in world football who could beat Bayern. I’m sorry, Manchester United – you’re playing against us in the Champions League. Arsenal, we want revenge, and this time it’s in Munich. So, beware!
Champions League: Bayern Munich opponents
The league phase is expected to get interesting as Bayern for the second season in a row will face Premier League champions Arsenal, but this time they will welcome them in Germany.
Bayern will also face Spanish giants Atletico Madrid and French outfit Lille away from home, while they will visit Old Trafford to face Manchester United.
The other opponents include Viking Stavanger, Slavia Prague, and Real Betis.
