While Nico Schlotterbeck provides an update on the state of his recovery, there are concerns in Dortmund about Ramy Bensebaini. He had to go to hospital after the Bayern game. News and rumours about Borussia Dortmund.

BVB, news: Even more defensive worries? Ramy Bensebaini in hospital

Niko Kovac could have done without this. BVB are already missing defensive leader Nico Schlotterbeck for the whole summer and beyond, and now Ramy Bensebaini has become another concern.

The 31-year-old Algerian crashed into team-mate Waldemar Anton in the Supercup against Bayern Munich on Saturday evening (1-2) and could only carry on through the pain. Just before the final whistle, matters got worse when Bensebaini saw a straight red card for a foul on Bayern striker Ismail Saibari.

There is at least some good news for BVB: Bensebaini will not miss the Bundesliga opener, but "only" the DFB Cup. The bad news is that the left-footer had to go to hospital after the match for checks on the injury. According to Bild, Bensebaini suffered a bruised rib. That should leave him available for next Saturday's Bundesliga opener against Hamburger SV (6.30pm). Whether he will be at 100 per cent remains unclear.

BVB, news: Nico Schlotterbeck speaks about recovery progress

Nico Schlotterbeck still needs more time before making his comeback from an ankle injury. "It's simply a lengthy process," the BVB defensive leader said on Sunday while appearing as a guest of the Audi team at the Formula 1 race in Zandvoort.

The Germany international suffered the medial ligament injury in the national team's second World Cup group match against Ivory Coast (2-1). "It was no small thing at the World Cup," the 26-year-old told Sky: "At first I thought it wasn't that bad, then I kept playing." He picked up the injury after a quarter of an hour but was only taken off at half-time.

At the moment, Schlotterbeck is doing rehabilitation work at BVB, and the club recently did not want to put a timeframe on his return. "We have to take it day by day. We're trying to let it heal well and do good work, with the physios and the rehab coaches," he said. "Then I believe it won't take that much longer."

BVB, news: Fabio Silva underlines dissatisfaction with backup role

Fabio Silva again made it clear after Saturday's Supercup that he wants more at BVB than a place behind Serhou Guirassy on the bench.

"Of course I want to start more games and help the team. I want to be even more important. If I say anything else, I'd be lying. I always tell the truth," the 24-year-old said, according to Bild.

Silva then added: "Everyone sees what I did last season, in the minutes I played, the assists, the movements. I'm not a normal No 9, a nine-and-a-half."

Against Bayern, Silva replaced the disappointing Guirassy after just over an hour and scored Dortmund's only goal. The lively forward has been linked with several clubs. Teams from Spain's La Liga and, more recently, Trabzonspor, the new club of Liverpool legend Mo Salah, are said to be interested in him.

Silva joined BVB in summer 2025 from Wolverhampton Wanderers for 22 million euros.
