Bayern Munich's €53m Olise gamble is already looking ridiculous
Michael Olise is letting his football do all the talking. The Bayern Munich and France winger has been shy and aloof at times in interviews, but when he is on the pitch, he is usually the best player on the field.
This has seen his Estimated Transfer Value skyrocket to €198.1m, a remarkable figure that has been coming since he joined Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace in July 2024. Bayern paid €53m for him and that looks a bargain as he is now worth almost four times that fee.
During the international break, Olise got a chance to play for new France boss Zinedine Zidane, who had nothing but praise for the 24-year-old: "He's a bit reserved and shy off the pitch, but that's fine because on the pitch he's not shy at all – he's a natural leader with his game. He's showing all his talent with the ball. He has established himself here for a while and is doing very well at his club."
Anyone who has watched Olise at Bayern Munich will attest to how exciting a talent he is. There are few players in the world who have that rare ability to make you nervous with excitement every time they have the ball. At any moment, Olise could do something utterly incredible to change the course of a game. Perhaps it could be his trademark fake shot to bamboozle defenders, perhaps it could be a stunning strike from range, perhaps it could just be the nonchalant way he stands by the ball in possession taunting and teasing opponents to come to him before he leaves them for dead.
With France under Zidane, this same magic has been evident. At the World Cup, he led the tournament in assists, but the new-look France looks to suit him even better. In the first three games together, Olise has scored twice and provided an assist for Zidane and it seems like it will the perfect match of player and coach.

At club level, Olise already has this. Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany just lets Olise do his thing, and in an attacking trio with Luis Diaz and Ballon d'Or-favourite Harry Kane, goals are guaranteed. Olise's personal tally on that account keeps getting better too, just like his value. In his first Bundesliga season, he scored 12 times, then improved on his personal best to 15 league goals last season and is now on track to smash that again with four goals in the first four games of the new season.
Expect Olise's value to break the €200m barrier some time soon. And with the way he's playing right now, it might just keep going up and up.
