Bayern Munich president warns of three difficult European tasks: Eberl sets a "clear target"

The Bundesliga champions will clash with the Premier League title holders

Jan-Christian Dreesen, chief executive of German club Bayern Munich, commented on his side's draw in the UEFA Champions League, which took place on Thursday in Monaco, stressing the strength of the opponents and the difficulty of some of the fixtures.

Speaking to the press after the draw, Dreesen said: "The opponents are by no means easy. We have some really tough tests, among them Atletico Madrid, who are always a difficult team, and Manchester United away at Old Trafford, in front of magnificent fans."

He continued: "And at home, we will face Arsenal, the champions of England and runners-up in last season's Champions League."

Bayern's president added: "Then we have some opponents who are less familiar to us, such as Viking. I am very much looking forward to this match and to the trip to Norway. We will also face Bodo/Glimt at home, a team that caused a few surprises last season. Overall, these are opponents we respect greatly, but we want to beat them."

Max Eberl, Bayern Munich's sporting director, echoed that mood: "We are very much looking forward to the new Champions League season. We have some highly anticipated away matches, against Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, Lille and Viking."

He went on: "At home, we have opponents we can overcome. But also among them is Arsenal, last season's runners-up. We want to finish the league phase within the top eight, that is the clear objective."

The Bavarians bowed out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage last season, beaten by eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain.
