Erling Haaland admits he is at Manchester City to help them win the Champions League. 

The red-hot Norwegian, 22, stole the show once again last night with a stunning five-goal haul as the Citizens hammered RB Leipzig 7-0. 

His performance propelled City into the quarter-finals and underlined their determination to land the one major prize that has eluded them.

Haalnd, who has bagged 39 goals in 36 appearances this term, said: "Of course the club want to win the Champions League.

"They've won four out of the last five Premier League titles. They didn't bring me in to win the Premier League because they already know how to win it. 

"So you can read between the lines. I'm here to try to help the club develop even more and to win the Champions League for the first time."

Perfect partner

Brentford boss Thomas Frank believes Ivan Toney would make the perfect strike partner for England skipper Harry Kane.

On Monday, a 24-year-old man was given a suspended four-month prison sentence and issued with a three-year ban from all football stadiums in England after admitting to racially abusing Toney on Instagram. 

Toney, who was overlooked for the World Cup by Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate, is hoping to be included when the squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers is announced on Friday. 

And although he is awaiting an FA verdict after admitting to 262 breaches of gambling rules, Frank believes the in-form striker deserves to be involved with the national team. 

The Bees chief said: "Kane is the No1 [striker] and will play 90 minutes. But if they're struggling for goals, I think Ivan can play alongside him. 

"They have quite a few similarities. Both of them are very good link-up players. Both are very good in the box. 

"I think Ivan has a slight advantage in the duels and longer play. In that area Kane's all-round play is such a high level but Ivan's is high as well. 

"I think it's fair to say Kane has shown more consistency over many years and scored more goals. But definitely Ivan can bring something."

John Stones feels there is no limit to what Erling Haaland can achieve in a Manchester City shirt. 

Haaland, 22, plundered five goals as City thrashed RB Leipzig 7-0 at the Etihad Stadium last night to power into the Champions League quarter-finals. 

It continued a stunning first season in English football for the prolific Norwegian, taking his tally since joining last summer to 39 in 36 appearances. 

And Stones reckons his team-mate will get even better with time. He said: "I believe he really could do what he wants, just from his hunger and his attitude and professionalism. 

"He gets in the right spot at the right time — an 'absolute ball magnet', as I think Jack Grealish was calling him in the dressing room. 

"I mean, I knew he was good but… I’m so happy for him. [He’s an] incredible player and I just think he’s going from strength to strength. 

"For me, he's an even better person, which makes it even better."

Musical chairs

Arsenal have announced a boardroom shuffle with owners Stan Kroenke and Josh Kroenke becoming co-chairs. 

Tim Lewis also becomes executive vice-chair in a move the Gunners describe as "recognition of how our leadership structure has evolved over the past several seasons". 

Stan Kroenke assumed 100 per cent ownership of Arsenal in 2018 through holding company Kroenke Sports & Entertainment. 

He said: "This is a simple evolution as part of us all driving Arsenal forward and further reaffirms our family's long-standing commitment to this great club. 

"Stability in football has never been more important as we move past the pandemic and we believe this is the perfect time to formalise these roles. 

"Our objectives and ambition will never waver — to field teams that compete for trophies at the highest level and lead our club in a way that inspires our passionate supporters around the world. 

"Together with our executive team and all our wonderful people, we have an incredible opportunity to build on the values and traditions of Arsenal Football Club."

Arsenal fans protested against Kroenke's ownership after he tried to lead the club into the proposed European Super League in 2021. 

But his investment over the last two transfer windows has helped the North Londoners launch a Premier League title bid this season, with Mikel Arteta's side currently five points clear at the top of the table.

Sam Kerr wants to commit her future to Women's Super League champions Chelsea. 

The Australian, 29, netted the only goal of the game against Manchester United last Sunday as the Blues leapfrogged their title rivals to return to the top of the table. 

Having joined the Londoners from Chicago Red Stars in 2019, she has one year left on her contract. 

But speaking to BBC Radio London, Kerr said: "Hopefully I stay here as long as I can. Hopefully there's a lot more goals and a lot more games and we go from there."
