Either South Africa or West Indies will oversee their first defeat when they take on each other, in what has been an otherwise spotless T20 World Cup 2026 campaign for both sides.

The match is slated to commence on 26th February, at the Narendra Modi Stadium, and with both teams entering the game with astronomical net run rates (NRR), a win would nearly confirm top spot and a semifinal seat.

Battle between two heavyweight middle orders

Both sides sounded a frightening warning to the rest in their first Super 8s game. While South Africa took down pre-tournament favorites India by 76 runs in this very stadium - where they have played four of their five matches - West Indies blew Zimbabwe away, mounting 254 on the board before skittling Sikandar Raza's side out for 147.

All of Ryan Rickelton, David Miller and Dewald Brevis have notched over 130 runs this tournament; a sign of regularity in their middle-order partnerships.

Not to mention, Tristan Stubbs has finished off a couple of innings masterfully, including the final-ball six he plastered off Fazalhaq Farooqi to take the South Africa versus Afghanistan game to a second super over, where he would again come away with 7 (2)*. It's perhaps fair to say, that particular morale-boosting win was what really set South Africa on their sails.

And the same goes for the Windies. While Brandon King is yet to come to the party, Shai Hope's solid foundations at the top have been clinically complemented by Shimron Hetmyer, Sherfane Rutherford - both of whom are striking over 185 this tournament.

With dew out of the equation in an afternoon game, and runs having been plundered at devastating rates by both teams, it becomes a question of who out-bats the other.

Player's Total Runs - Brandon King - Under 21.5

He averages merely 14.20 this tournament, and it has seemed like King has never really got going. He has hardly beaten a run-a-ball scoring rate despite playing on relatively favorable batting tracks and with the field up.

Barring a 35 of 30 against Scotland in West Indies' first game, he's endured a string of low scores, heading back to the sheds inside the powerplay on all further occasions.

He will be up against a spirited South Africa bowling attack who produced a masterclass to rock India in the last game. With Marco Jansen's height and guile and Lungi Ngidi's variations as a presented challenge front up, all signs point towards another unfortunate failure for King.

Most 4s - South Africa

Simply put, South Africa are a prolific boundary-hitting side. To put that into context, Aiden Markram has struck more fours (24) than Rutherford (15) and Roston Chase (eight) combined.

All in all, the Proteas batters have stacked up 74 boundaries in contrast to West Indies' 68.

The increasing familiarity with the Narendra Modi stadium's dimensions add an advantage too, both while scoring and setting fields.
