The round-of-16 match against Portugal was a difficult encounter, but Spain delivered a controlled performance. They eventually found the back of the net thanks to Mikel Merino's late goal, winning 1-0. They also needed another late goal from Merino against Belgium to secure a 2-1 win in the quarter-finals. However, Spain's best performance of the tournament came against fellow favourites France in the semi-final. La Roja defeated a strong, attacking France 2-0 to reach the final convincingly, with goals from Oyarzabal and Perro. 

Spain have so far proven itself a capable contender, scoring 13 goals and conceding only one. With 120 attempts on goal and 6 clean sheets so far, La Roja have found a balance between attack and defence, making them a favourite going into the final. 

Argentina's Route to the Final

Argentina's route to the final hasn't been a walk in the park, but they certainly made a statement in the group stage. Despite being one of the favourites going into the tournament, many tipsters weren't sure La Albiceleste could go all the way until they defeated Algeria 3-0 in their first group-stage match, thanks to Lionel Messi's hat trick. They finished first in group J after beating Austria 2-0 and Jordan 3-. Messi extended his goal tally by scoring two against Austria and one against Jordan.

The round of 32 was their first scare after Cape Verde held them to a 1-1 draw at 90 minutes. Argentina would eventually win 3-2 in extra time, but they had to fight for it. The round of 16 against Egypt was another scare, going 2-0 down until 11 minutes of regular time to go. La Albiceleste turned the match around with goals from Cristian Romero, Messi, and Enzo Fernandez before the end of regular time.

The quarterfinal was another match that had to be settled in extra time. Facing a tough Swiss side, Argentina struggled against the Nati despite Breel Embolo being sent off. The match ended 1-1 at 90 minutes, but Argentina won 3-1 in extra time. 

The match against England was the one to watch, but Messi proved his worth again with two assists, leading La Albiceleste to a 2-1 late victory after going a goal down. Enzo Fernández and Lautaro Martínez got the crucial goals in the final minutes of the match after Anthony Gordon gave England the lead early in the second half.
