No stopping Harry

Wayne Rooney believes Harry Kane can establish an England goalscoring record that will stand for years to come.

Kane surpassed the Manchester United legend as his country's most prolific marksman when he netted for the 54th time in last night's 2-1 win over Italy.

And Roo, who had been top of the pile since 2015, now expects the 29-year-old Tottenham star to raise the bar significantly.

He said: "Knowing Harry, it's not something that will go to his head.

"He will kick on and, in fact, I believe that when he stops playing he will leave the England record in a place where it will be very difficult for someone else to break it.

"He wants to be like Poland's Robert Lewandowski, a goal machine who is still at the very top in his mid-30s, and he has it in him to make that happen.

"I think Harry will finish with an England goals total well into the 70s."

Working back to fitness

N'Golo Kante has yet to play for Chelsea boss Graham Potter
N'Golo Kante has yet to play for Chelsea boss Graham Potter

N'Golo Kante played 60 minutes of a behind-closed-doors friendly this afternoon as Chelsea's development squad beat Charlton 3-0.

Goals from Dion Rankine, Silko Thomas and Malik Mothersille saw the Blues home, with all eyes on Kante as the Frenchman continued the long road back to full fitness.

The World Cup winner, 31, has yet to play for Graham Potter having sustained a hamstring injury in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham at Stamford Bridge last August.

Potter's side, who are 10th in the Premier League, return to action on April 1 when Aston Villa visit the Bridge.

Gemma Bonner and her Liverpool team-mates are ready to tackle Everton
Gemma Bonner and her Liverpool team-mates are ready to tackle Everton

Gemma Bonner has issued a rallying call to her Liverpool team-mates to give it everything against Everton tonight.

The Reds head to Goodison Park to face their Women's Super League rivals having lost the reverse fixture to the Toffees 3-0 at Anfield last September.

And Bonner, a lifelong Liverpool fan, is well aware how important it is to come out on top in a Merseyside derby.

The defender, 31, said: "It's a game everyone looks forward to. It makes it that little bit more special being at Goodison.

"But for us it's a game we approach like no other because we know how much pride comes with wearing the Liverpool shirt.

"We'll be going all out to do all we can to make sure we come out with the result."

Elland Road locked down

Elland Road has been closed by the police amid security fears.

Reports suggest Leeds received a security threat via social media last night, resulting in the Premier League club's offices and shop being shuttered as a precaution.

West Yorkshire Police said: "Police were called to attend at Elland Road following reports of a security threat to the premises.

"Investigations are currently ongoing to establish the credibility of that threat. The report was received at 9.49pm on Thursday night."

A Leeds statement added: "Our offices, ticket office, foundation offices and club shop at Elland Road will be closed until further notice on the advice of the police.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and will inform the public when normal service resumes."

Harrop set to equal record

Tottenham star Kerys Harrop is set to equal the Women's Super League appearance record
Tottenham star Kerys Harrop is set to equal the Women's Super League appearance record

Tottenham interim boss Vicky Jepson will be delighted to see Kerys Harrop equal the all-time Women's Super League appearance record, writes Mitchell Fretton

Harrop, 32, will match ex-Chelsea and West Ham defender Gilly Flaherty's tally of 177 if she features against Arsenal at Brisbane Road tomorrow.

Jepson, who will take charge of her second match after Rehanne Skinner's departure, said: "Leadership is key with Kes. She's very vocal but she's also very caring.

"We've got quite a young squad, so she gets round the young players and helps them through the turbulence we've faced this season.

"When you've had as many appearances in the WSL as Kes has, she will have experienced ultimate highs and lows. And with that, you develop so many different skill sets to help lead people.

"I've certainly seen those moments from Kes on and off the pitch during my time at the club."

Harrop spent the first nine years of her senior career at Birmingham, making 135 league appearances, before joining Tottenham in July 2020.
