Tottenham Eye Antonio Rudiger as Cristian Romero Replacement Amid Real Madrid Exit Links

Tottenham are considering a move for Real Madrid centre-back Antonio Rudiger as a potential replacement for captain Cristian Romero, reports Spanish publication Fichajes.
Romero has been linked with a move away from Spurs following his most recent outburst via his official Instagram account.
The Argentine took aim at the Spurs decision makers once the transfer window closed, labelling the lack of first team players available due to injury as “disgraceful”.
Romero linked with summer exit
The Tottenham captain was linked with a move away from north London last summer, with Atletico Madrid tracking the centre-back, who ultimately signed a new deal with the Europa League winners.
However, Romero has reportedly become disillusioned with life at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Spurs struggle at the wrong end of the table.
Spurs fell to a 2-1 loss to Newcastle on Tuesday night, a result that made it just two wins from their last 17 league matches and leaves the club just five points above the relegation zone.
Midweek loss cost Thomas Frank his job
The midweek home reverse cost Thomas Frank his job as Spurs boss, with the club on the lookout for a new manager ahead of next week’s North London Derby.
And come the summer, they may need to bring in a new centre-back to replace Romero with Rudiger a potential target.
The German left Chelsea for Real Madrid on a free back in 2022, though injury has restricted the 32-year-old to just six league starts this season.
Rudiger's contract expires this summer
The Spanish giants are prepared to allow Rudiger, whose contract expires this summer, to leave the club at the end of the season, with a return to London emerging as a possibility for the defender.
Spurs are expected to target an experienced head at the heart of the defence as they look to strengthen the leadership group in the squad.
Rudiger hasn’t made a competitive appearance for Real Madrid since their Supercopa de Espana semi-final win over Atletico Madrid last month due to a knee problem, though the former Chelsea man was on the bench for Real Madrid’s recent 2-0 win over Valencia.
