Manchester United are set to battle with Aston Villa for the services of Fulham's USMNT left-back Antonee Robinson, according to SportsBoom.

Robinson is reported to have emerged as a serious target for the third and fourth-placed Premier League sides for the summer, as a result of some consistent performances in the Fulham side.

While he has missed a good chunk of the season through a knee injury, and has therefore not added to his 17 Premier League career assists - 10 of which came last season - the American full-back has returned to the fold of late and performed well.

The aforementioned clubs are therefore said to be monitoring Robinson ahead of what's reported to be a £25million move.

United, for their part, are keen to strengthen at left-back. Patrick Dorgu has been deployed in more advanced positions, and has also sustained an injury which has kept him sidelined.

Luke Shaw has been injury prone in recent seasons and is not getting any younger, meaning there's a threat for United of not having a consistent option to play in the left-back role.

It is said that Robinson's pace, reliability and Premier League experience make him a standout for the Red Devils.

The left-back himself, now 28, is said to be eager to test himself at the highest level and is desperate to play Champions League football - having never played any European football in his career to this stage.

Fulham, for their part, are determined to keep their left-back at the club, knowing he's one of their standout performers and has been for much of his six seasons at the club.

With the left-back also firmly on the radar at Villa, there might be a battle for the Cottagers to keep Robinson at the club.

Liverpool an option for Robinson

Another potential option for Robinson, according to TEAMtalk, is Liverpool, with a belief at the club that Milos Kerkez needs competition.

The report gives information in line with others, in regards to Robinson's desire to test himself at a big club, as it's stated the left-back is keen on a return to Merseyside, to play for the Reds, rather than former club Everton.

Indeed, Robinson started his career as a Toffee, playing academy football and a handful of EFL Trophy games against senior sides, though he never made a proper senior appearance.

If he is to play senior football on Merseyside now, it seems Liverpool are the likeliest destination, as they, like United and Villa, are ready to push for Robinson.
