Manchester United are preparing to offer a one-year contract to 37-year-old Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, reports SportsBoom.
United have been devoid of an elite striker since Cristiano Ronaldo departed his second spell at Old Trafford in 2022, preceded by Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney.
Lewandowski has been one of the world's greatest strikers for the majority of his career, having bagged over 600 career club goals, including 117 at Barcelona, where he joined in his 30s.
The Polish striker's contract is up with Barca in the summer and it's reported he plans to assess his options.
One of those options will be United, per SportsBoom, who report United are open to the prospect of bringing Lewandowski to the club and will offer him a one-year deal.
The report suggests the Red Devils are eager to have Lewandowski mentor Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko, who have both shown good promise this season, though neither have passed 10 Premier League goals yet.
United will not have a straightforward pursuit of Lewandowski, though, with multiple other avenues available to the 37-year-old.
Barcelona want to keep Lewandowski
The report states Barcelona are in the process of offering their striker a one-year extension on his current deal.
However, their desire is to give him a new deal with a significant pay cut, as an attempt to balance their books amid their financial struggles, with performance-based add-ons, meaning if he doesn't perform, they won't be out of pocket, and if he does, he'll be deserving of the extra cash.
There are other options available to Lewandowski, who it's believed wants a multi-year deal despite the fact he is heading towards his 40s.
It's stated a number of MLS clubs, including Inter Miami, are keen on the Pole - where he could link up with some very big names, with the Florida-based club boasting the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
It is suggested that there could be an allure in a move to the Premier League, where Lewandowski has never played before, so United could potentially have a chance in landing the Barcelona striker.
