Liverpool in Talks to Sign Lutsharel Geertruida as Arne Slot Eyes Defensive Reunion

Liverpool are in talks to sign Lutsharel Geertruida as they push to land a new defender, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Geertruida only moved to Sunderland on loan last summer and has made 17 league appearances for the Black Cats, starting 10 times.
And the Reds are now reportedly in talks to sign the Dutchman ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.
Liverpool looking to strengthen at right-back
Liverpool are in the market for a new right-back following injuries to Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong.
A move for Geertruida would see the defender and head coach Arne Slot reunite at Anfield, the pair having worked together during their respective time at Feyenoord.
The defender came through the Feyenoord ranks and was part of the first team squad between 2017 and 2024.
However, the 25-year-old left for German side RB Leipzig in 2024, before moving to Sunderland last summer.
Reds aiming to bolster their defence
Liverpool are keen to strengthen their defence having failed to bolster sufficiently at the back over earlier in the season.
Arne Slot’s side had hoped to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace but the deal fell through late on deadline day in September.
Guehi has since gone on to join Manchester City, and made his Cityzens debut last weekend in the 2-0 win over Wolves.
Liverpool ended five-game winless run in style
Liverpool ended a five-game Premier League winless run on Saturday night as they eased to a 4-1 win over Newcastle.
Hugo Ekitike bagged a brace before Florian Wirtz and Ibrahima Konate sealed a comprehensive victory after Anthony Gordon had put the Magpies ahead.
