Liverpool are ready to firm up their interest in Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo and believe that a £70m offer would be enough to convince their Premier League counterparts to sell this summer, reports Spanish publication Fichajes.

The Reds are expected to invest in defence in the summer as they look to strengthen at the back.

Arne Slot’s side had sought to bring in a senior centre-back last year, but failed to sign Marc Guehi despite agreeing a fee with Crystal Palace for the England international.

Guehi would go on to sign for rivals Manchester City in January, while Liverpool confirmed the addition of young Frenchman Jeremy Jacquet, though he isn’t arriving until the end of the season.

Murillo linked with Liverpool transfer

And Liverpool are expected to add at least one more defender to the ranks when the transfer window re-opens, with Murillo a rumoured target.

The Brazilian has emerged as one of Forest’s most important players following his arrival from Brasileirao side Corinthians in 2023.

The 23-year-old put pen to paper on a new Forest deal last January, which runs until 2029, with the Midlands side under no pressure to cash in on one of their prized assets.

Sub-par season may see Murillo leave Forest

However, Forest’s sub-par season may convince Murillo to push for a summer exit.

Should the defender look to leave the City Ground, then Liverpool would face competition in any race to land the Forest star, who has also attracted interest from Chelsea.

Murillo isn’t the only Forest player who may leave this summer, with midfielders Elliot Anderson and Morgan Gibbs-White also linked with a move away at the end of the season.

Forest looking to beat the drop

The Tricky Trees sit just a point above the relegation zone and are currently on their fourth manager of the season following the appointment of Vitor Pereira last month.

Forest will aim to boost their survival hopes when they welcome Fulham to the City Ground next weekend.

Elsewhere, relegation rivals West Ham host title chasing Manchester City, while Tottenham make the trip to Anfield to take on defending Premier League champions Liverpool.
