Liverpool have confirmed they have a deal in place to sign Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet this summer.
The 20-year-old was wanted by Chelsea, and reportedly agreed personal terms with the Blues to secure a Stamford Bridge switch.
However, Chelsea’s failure to negotiate a fee for Jacquet has seen the west London side miss out on the Frenchman, who will move to Anfield at the end of the season.
Liverpool announce Jacquet deal
“Liverpool have reached an agreement for the transfer of Jeremy Jacquet from Stade Rennais, with the defender set to join the club ahead of the 2026-27 season, subject to a work permit and international clearance,” a statement read on the club’s official website.
“The Reds have secured a deal for the 20-year-old that will see him complete the remainder of the current campaign in Ligue 1 and move to Anfield in the summer on a long-term contract.
“Jacquet, who has five caps for France U21s, has made 18 appearances for Rennes in his country's top flight so far this season.”
Jacquet 'honoured' to be moving to Liverpool
On his move to Liverpool, Jacquet, in a statement released on his behalf by Rennes, said: "I am honoured to sign for Liverpool, one of the greatest football institutions in the world.
"It was also very important for me to finish my time in red and black on a high, at my boyhood club, the club of my heart.
"I'm approaching this second half of the season with the desire to experience some great moments with my teammates and the fans."
Liverpool ended a five-game winless run at the weekend as they claimed a 4-1 win over Newcastle.
And next up for Arne Slot’s side is the welcome of title-challenging Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
