Manchester United have been informed that Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor are not prepared to pay between £40m and £43m to sign goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer, reports MEN.

Onana moved to Trabzonspor on loan back in September having dropped down the United pecking order following the arrival of Belgian shotstopper Senne Lammens.

Lammens has firmly established himself as first choice at Old Trafford having put in a series of solid performances between the sticks for the Manchester powerhouse.

United looking to recoup fee that paid Inter for Onana

United were hoping Onana would have performed well enough for Trabzonspor to make his permanent as the Premier League side look to recoup the £43.8m the paid Inter to sign the Cameroonian in 2023.

While Onana has made 20 league starts for third-placed Trabzonspor, the 29-year-old has struggled for consistency for Fatih Tekke’s side.

As a result, the Premier League side have been informed that the Turkish giants aren’t prepared to extend Onana’s stay beyond the end of the season.

Trabzon confirm they won't sign Onana

“As the figure from Manchester United for the purchase of Andre Onana is in the range of €45-50m, our president has sincerely informed the community in line with Trabzonspor’s realities,” Trabzonspor vice-president Zeyyat Kafkas revealed to Gunebakıs.

“I don’t think this information affected Onana at all. Because Onana’s thinking is that if it’s not England, he wants to continue at a club in Europe.

“His family thinks the same way. The president also wanted to explain Trabzonspor’s reality. However, if the conditions change, the situation changes.”

Onana 'will make own decision on his future'

Tekke has also confirmed that Onana will make his own decision on his future, stating: “Onana is on loan with us. There have been matches where he didn’t play well. There have also been many matches where he played well.

“I’m very pleased with Onana’s positivity, not only in terms of performance but also in terms of character. You have transferred from one of the best teams in the world and you have experienced problems. He feels very comfortable here.

“The chairman’s words reflect Onana’s own thoughts. But this can sometimes change in a match. He is very happy here, but he will make his own decision about his future.”

While a summer exit is likely, Onana is keen to fight for the number one spot at Old Trafford once he returns to Manchester later this year.
